Hello,

As the Coronavirus spreads, we’re aware that more schools are closing and pupils’ learning is being disrupted. Parents, carers and teachers are looking for ways to ensure the continuity of education during school closures so that no children miss out on valuable learning time.

To support you during this period, Twinkl is offering every teacher in England access to all Twinkl resources with a One Month Ultimate Membership, totally free of charge. We’re also extending this to every parent and carer in your school so your pupils can still have access to high-quality learning during any periods of disruption.

Setting this up is really easy to do - go to www.twinkl.co.uk/offer and enter the code UKTWINKLHELPS

We’d like your support to get this message out. Please let your wider school and leadership team know about this opportunity so that you can all share it with your school community.

Please also share this code with parents and share the link above on your website so parents know where to activate their code.

We’ve also put together some helpful guidance to outline a few ideas for how you can support parents and carers during school closures, ensure high quality learning continues and support teachers, parents and carers to make the most from this offer of help.

If you are an existing Twinkl subscriber on Core or Extra you will be able to use this code to upgrade your current membership using the same link as above.

It’s easy to arrange access yourself through our website. If you do have any questions please get in touch with our TwinklCares team. As we are supporting people globally please bear in mind that we are receiving a large number of enquiries so please only get in touch if your enquiry is of an urgent nature at twinklcares@twinkl.co.uk

World Book Day, by Mrs Fletcher

Date: 7th Mar 2020 @ 8:50am

The children have had a wonderful day. We used a scene from Ronald Dahl’s Charlie and the Chocolate Factory to pose a scientific question: can sweets grow bigger? Using gummy bears and water the children set out to find the answer. They placed their bears in pots with a small amount of water and left them for an hour. Mrs Fletcher wasn’t allowed any water for her bear to make it a fair test. After an hour the children found that the bears in water had grown to be twice the size of Mrs Fletcher’S bear.

Next the children became architects , designing buildings made from sweets. They then wrote letters to Willy Wonka to tell him about their buildings.

After dinner we added to the whole school story before learning how to make origami books. The children then became authors and illustrators creating their own science or space themed books.

The children have all had an amazing day, I hope they enjoy sharing their new books with you and don’t forget to  spend the book vouchers.

Date: 6th Mar 2020 @ 11:21am

This world book day most people came in and science or space themed outfits to fit with our whole school year theme of moon landings.   We loved the fact that most people went with the principle of it is the thought that counts not the cost of the outfits - very eco!   Luckily, our school is very creative and we have seen some amazing ideas for the theme. Today we have also included another whole school write, starting in year six all the way to reception and seeing what wonderful story writing can be comprehended into it! At the end of the day we will have a big assembly and read through the excellent work we have created.

Rocket Day, by Mrs Fletcher

Date: 26th Nov 2019 @ 9:29pm

It has been a truly amazing day . We started with an assembly where Steve from Starchaser told us about his company, how he bacame interested in rockets, his career and the Nova 2 rocket.

We also went outside to look at the rocket . It had been made smaller so it can be moved around the roads. When it blasts off in May it will be 12 meters long, the longest rocket to be launched in the UK.

Next we had fun looking in the special space box learning about the materials used to build rockets, rubberised rocket fuel, astronaut food and lots more.

As a treat the Elephants got to taste some astronaut freeze dried ice cream . They learnt how it was made and thought about its taste and texture.

Writing was next. We looked at videos of the command capsule of Apollo 11 , we found out that the astronauts were lying down when they blasted off. As we watched the rocket lift off we used our senses to imagine what it would have been like to have been on the mission to the moon. The children were using very impressive vocabulary.

The day finished outside where parents and grandparents joined us to watch 2 rockets be launched. Our very own Poppy was selected to launch one of the rockets.

A wonderful day of learning and life long memories .

Please can any remaining boxes , tubes etc come into school this coming week so we can begin making our space buggies. Also any bits of yellow packaging, paper, fabric would be much appreciated for our candle to go in church.

The children all looked wonderful in their Remembrance Day outfits. Thank you everyone for making such a wonderful effort. We have spent the day remembering . After play the classs joined in the whole school service of remembrance. After that we looked at a verse from the poem Fallen and thought about its meaning. This afternoon the children wrote down their thought about what memories are before listening to a story which helped tem to understand the meaning of memories even more. Next they wrote about who we remember on Remembrance Day and the ways in which we remember.

We even had time to elect Poppy and Theo as Rotakids and we finished the day listening to some Michael Rosen poems which we found very funny.
