Tudor punishments, by Mrs Catterall
Date: 5th Oct 2021 @ 3:29pm
Today we started our lesson by talking about why we learn about history. I was very impressed with the children’s ideas. “To uncover mysteries from the past”. “To see how the world has changed over time” “ To find out how life has improved” “So we can learn how to make things better”.
Our focus was on the Tudor times, we were hoping the punishments wouldn’t be as bad, but they got worse,
Can you work out what the punishments were?

Anglo Saxon Wergild, by Mrs Catterall
Date: 23rd Sep 2021 @ 8:45pm
We have had an exciting history lesson today. Did you know in the Anglo-Saxon times the criminal would have to pay wergild (compensation to the victim), the amount paid would depend on the injuries the victim had. We had 6 teams who had to work out how much they were owed based on the injuries they received.
We then took on roles of a jury, Anglo Saxon or a modern Britain and had to argue the punishment for different crimes from that period of History’s point of view.
D.T. Making a switch, by Mrs Catterall
Date: 21st Sep 2021 @ 10:00pm
To finish off an amazing day we completed a focused task of making switches. There was a collection of resources available for the children to select from and they got to work having a go. The tin foil was shiny and taught their attention - is it a conductor? Can we cover everything in tin foil to make it look shiny and pretty? What did you discover?
Swimming, by Mrs Catterall
Date: 21st Sep 2021 @ 9:48pm
The day has finally come, we got to go swimming. We were very excited this morning, we planned ahead and got our hats on ready. All the children were longton superstars. ?
There behaviour was outstanding, their listening was excellent, they showed support for their friends who were nervous and gave it a fantastic effort. I am very proud of them all. I’m looking forward to next week already.
Keep shining brightly Elephants ??
Cricket - bowling today, by Mrs Catterall
Date: 21st Sep 2021 @ 9:39pm
This week we learnt about bowling in cricket. It’s a bit different throwing a cricket ball compared to when we have learnt about throwing before. You have to keep your arm straight. It was a bit tricky but we will keep practising. Chris gave us a few techniques to help us - a seesaw or a number 6.
Buddhism visitor, by Mrs Catterall
Date: 18th Sep 2021 @ 12:24pm
This week we enjoyed a special visitor to school, a lady who follows the religion of Buddhism. She told us about what she believes and how she lives her life.
Back in class the children reflected on what they had learnt and thought about the behaviours they should show to be a good friend.
Wow sweetcorn, by Mrs Catterall
Date: 16th Sep 2021 @ 8:51pm
Today we got to see an amazing corn on the cob grown by one of our Elephants. We have been looking forward to this when we saw pictures of it growing last year as part of an LPS+ badge. Congratulations on growing this to perfection.
Tortoise visit, by Mrs Catterall
Date: 16th Sep 2021 @ 8:47pm
Today Mrs Gaskell brought in her tortoise to show the children. It reminded us of a story some of us read in guided reading last year. Esio Trot by Roald Dahl. Mrs Gaskell was interested to find out about the story, thank you Theo for giving her a clear summary, she is looking forward to reading it.
Roman crime and punishment, by Mrs Catterall
Date: 16th Sep 2021 @ 8:43pm
We explored the consequences for some of the crimes in a Roman times. The elephants are glad they didn’t live then. We extended our knowledge of key vocabulary. Judge, jury, lawyer, court, victim, witness.
Science - Is it a circuit?, by Mrs Catterall
Date: 13th Sep 2021 @ 4:49pm
Today we made predictions about whether different drawings of circuits would actually work or not. We not only had to predict if they would or would not but also try to explain why we thought that using our previous knowledge.
We then made and tested each of them out.
Cricket session 1, by Mrs Catterall
Date: 13th Sep 2021 @ 4:45pm
Chris our cricket coach came today we had great fun practising our catching and then finished off with a game of 7 bats. Well done Elephants you showed great focus and fantastic teamwork.
Art-Dragon eyes, by Mrs Catterall
Date: 10th Sep 2021 @ 9:03pm
This week we used pencil crayons to create a range of shades of colour. We explored colour combinations and techniques, pressing hard/light, building up with 1 colour over another. I was blown away by their focus and concentration. I’m sure you’ll agree they look amazing. I can’t wait to see their own dragon eye drawings and designs next week.
PSHE - Jigsaw bingo, by Mrs Catterall
Date: 10th Sep 2021 @ 8:48pm
We played a great game this week. We filled in a bingo board with our answers to questions like our favourite colour, subject food, the worst TV programme, someone they admire, what sport they would win an Olympic gold medal in etc. We then had to go around the room to find someone who had the same answer and write their name in the box. If they managed to fill 3 boxes in a row they shouted ‘Bingo’. It was a great way to get to know our friends better, see our similarities and differences and accept each other for who they are and how we can like different things and be friends. A fantastic Elephant tribe.

First few days back., by Mrs Catterall
Date: 4th Sep 2021 @ 8:57pm
3 days back and the children have been amazing, they have settled back in and are shining brightly. This week we began our science topic all about Electricity, explored 3 and 4 and 6 and 6 digit numbers, reading and writing them! Our English work is about the genre of Fantasy. We are focusing on dragons as an aspect of this genre. We have read a book called - ‘Tell me a dragon’ and matched up sentences to describe the dragons before having a go and writing our own. We have linked this to our art unit of work where we will explore shades of colour using pencil crayons before designing and making a dragons eye out of clay.

Growing, by Mrs Catterall
Date: 5th Jul 2021 @ 11:50am
This term we have been planting seeds, caring for the growing seedlings and then the plants.
They have certainly grown. The elephants have green fingers!
The peas and radishes have grown and we have been able to try the peas - they were very sweet.
The bug man visit, by Mrs Catterall
Date: 5th Jul 2021 @ 11:39am
This morning we had a visit from the John Vale. He talked to us about vertebrate and invertebrate as we got to see some animals of different types.
Well done Elephants you were outstanding at listening during the whole session and were very quiet so as not to scare the creatures.
Pippa asked an amazing question and we found out that some animals shrink as they get older.
The slime from an African land scale kills germs. (Elizabeth)
Snakes are venomous not poisionous. (Olive)
I didn’t know that some animals can see hot and cold, that was interesting, it was why we couldn’t look directly at them. (Elizabeth)
Spider’s webs are the strongest material in the world. If it was as thick as a pencil it would stop a jumbo jet. (Noah)
