Happy NewYear, by Mrs Fletcher

Date: 9th Jan 2019 @ 7:44pm

Happy New everyone. Thank you very much for all of the very lovely and very thoughtful gifts I received for Christmas.

I have uploaded this terms curriculum overview and it is on display on the window board.

Projects are due in on Monday 28th January, the week of the next round of parents evenings. The project can be based around anything the children have enjoyed learning about so far this year, anything on this terms curriculum overview or anything that interests them outside of school- a hobby, a skill, a favourite book.

Home work will be coming home tomorrow for ALL children. It should be completed and returned to school no later than next Tuesday. Any homework that is regularly not done will have to be done at lunchtime  on Wednsday. Please can I also ask that children read at home, Mrs Doherty has reported that there are an increasing number of children not reading and who are not returning their reading books and blue reading records on Mondays.

There have been a few minor changes to the timetable this term, Miss Connell will continue to teach PE and Jigsaw on Monday mornings. She will also be in class on Tuesday afternoons teaching PE and RE and on Wednesday mornings following music teaching reading comprehension, spelling and data and statistics.

Fun filled learning., by Mrs Fletcher

Date: 23rd Nov 2018 @ 1:44pm

It has  been another amazing week in the Bongo classroom. We have been particularly creative on Thursday and Friday.

To consolidate our learning about perimeter and area  we created paintings in the style of Piet Mondrian. The first task was to draw out our squares and rectangles and then calculate the perimeter and area. Next the paintings were created.

We have been focussing on instructions in English and using the idea of George's aftershave in our book Desireable the children created potions that would give them superpowers. Potions made, ingredient lists written a great job was done using imperative verbs and time conjunctions to write first class instructions. They will be on display soon in a class book.

Today has been group work Friday , the children have worked in groups of 3 to complete a problem solving task calculating the perimeter needed for enclosing a range of dinosaurs. There was great group work and super mathematical discussions.

The rest of the day has seen us swallowed up in enthusiasm for WRITING 😀. Yes it is official the Bongos love writing and have thrown themselves whole heartedly into creating a range of Foodimal characters to use in a story . They are busy creating settings now.

Wow!, by Mrs Fletcher

Date: 19th Oct 2018 @ 11:51am

Wow what a week the Bongos have had!

We had another wonder moment this week . During an English lesson the children watched a short clip from Wednesdays BBC documentary Without Limits: Australia. A short lesson thinking about empathy turned into an epic wonderful writing activity. The reluctant Bongos asked to write! A real wonder moment for myself and Mr Kennedy. And boy have they written! Each veteran in the film will be receiving a letter from a child in the class. Dean from Australia has already tweeted us to say thank you for watching the programme.

Friday morning has been circuit building and recording using symbols learnt earlier in the week. There is a real enthusiasm in the room today. Well done Bongos.

Homework is the holiday passports, most of the children must still have them at home so please can they be done and returned to school in early November.

Happy Half Term

No pencil Wednesday , by Mrs Fletcher

Date: 10th Oct 2018 @ 8:42pm

For 3 lessons today the children were not allowed to use pencil, paper or any other writing implements. The first session involved lining up as a class in response to different criteria such as month of birthday. The tricky part of this was that no talking was allowed . The Bongos rose to this challenge magnificently and communicated through gestures  and by guiding each other into position. Real teamwork in action. The next lesson was English. After watching clips of storytellers in action the children worked in pairs to tell stories. They used picture books and stories they were familiar with and videoed their efforts on iPads. The final session involved one person describing a shape which their partner had to identify. Once correctly identified a counter was placed on the shape mat.

Discussing the day the children said that they had missed being able to plan their stories with a pencil but they felt they had used other skills such as listening, teamwork and speaking really well.

Performance Maths, by Mrs Fletcher

Year 4 Trip, by Mrs Fletcher

Date: 12th Sep 2018 @ 8:17am

The Bongos had a wonderful day out learning more about World War 1. Their first visit of the day was to The Museum of Lancashire where they were met by a WW1 soldier and a volunteer nurse. They spent the morning learning about life in the trenches whilst sitting in a replica trench and learning about the role of the volunteer nurses and how casualties were treated on the battle field.

The afternoon was spent at the Lancashire Military Museum. On arrival the class were met by a Colour Sergeant  and a Sergeant who put them through their paces with a 40 minute drill session. Next the children learnt about uniforms, signed joining up papers and recited their oath to the king.

Virtual reality , by Mrs Fletcher

Date: 5th Sep 2018 @ 2:58pm

Today KS 2 all took part in a virtual reality session to learn about the trenches of World War 1. The Bongos loved every minute of their session. They learnt so much and have spent the rest of the day using their new knowledge in Art, history and English. As a treat at the end of the day we listened to some Michael Rosen poems .

Thursday assembly blog, by Mrs Catterall

Date: 8th Jul 2018 @ 9:26am

In today's assembly we were talking about what people have in common. There were three people. We thought reasons of why they are in common: they were old, they were famous and are all humans. They were all 70 and that is how long the NHS has been open. The NHS has helped all of us in the past, but unfortunately not everyone uses it right. People can have a small problem (a problem that could be solved by a doctor) and go to the A and E department; this makes the NHS hospital waits very long and makes people angry. We are all very lucky that we have the NHS in this country. We watched a very old video - 70 years old- which informed us about the opening of the national health service. It was very interesting. We decided that it was very important to say thank you to the hard-workers of the NHS, they save lives and make us well. They look after and help us. We should appreciate the amazing work they do!
