Tuesday Assembly Blog, by Mrs Catterall

Date: 17th Apr 2018 @ 8:53pm

Written by our Year 6 PSHE leaders

Today in our jigsaw assembly we learnt about friendships and relationships. Our title in jigsaw this half term is about friendships. We were talking about how baking a chocolate cake is like making a new friend. We put in our suggestions about the ingredients of a friendship, we had: loyalty, kindness, fun, and a friend that is always our friend. We had some time to think about if we had been kind to our friends today. We always have to remember to listen to our friends, to share with our friends, be kind to our friends and of course have fun with our friends!

Today's assembly was about, how much of our lives should we share with others? In the news this week it said about how lots of people's private information was leaked all over Facebook. We learnt about how things in the past have now changed, like how in the past we would go to the travel agents if we wanted to go on holiday, but now we can go onto the internet and book there instead. We have also been thinking about how you would act in different situations like how you would act when arguing with your brother or sister. Facebook is now thinking about a messenger app for kids, as lots of adults use it. Parents will be able to look at what their child has been doing on this app. It will allow children to communicate even if they do not have a phone number. Our reflection today was about the rules of law and we had a lot of questions.

Science Week Day 4, by Mrs Fletcher

Date: 22nd Mar 2018 @ 2:09pm

This morning we have had lots of fun with eggs. we made hypotheses about whether or not it is possible to crack an egg by holding the egg in your palm or between your thumb and forefinger. We found out that it wasn't. We then wrapped our eggs in cling film and applied force to one area of the gg and they cracked. We discovered that eggs have strong points where the pressure is equally spread so they don't crack.

Our next eggsperiment was to answer the question will an egg float in tap water? We discovered that they do t . We then aasked will an egg float in salty water? We made up a salt solution which we topped up with tap water. The egg sank through the tap water but when it reached the salty water at the bottom of the jug it floated. This is because salt water is denser that tap water.

The morning finished watching a fantastic sho called Journey To The Bottom of The Earth.

After lunch we discussed healthy diets and thought about vegetarianism before designing science lab coats.

Giraffes do Science, by Mrs Fletcher

Date: 19th Mar 2018 @ 12:03pm

Science week started with a super assembly where Mrs Catterall gave us  lots of interesting things to think about and see.

Back in class we predicted what might happen to some black seed like things Mrs Catterall had given us in a pot of water.

Next we worked in threes to think about famous scientists we know, scientific inventions and scientific facts.

After play we learnt about the life of Professor Stephen Hawking, a person we believe is a true inspiration.

One of Professor Hawking's main areas of study was Black Holes. As individuals we thought about what we think of when we hear those words, what they look like, how we know about them and how sat here in our classroom we could investigate black holes.

A great mornings work
