Roald Dahl Day, by Mr Coxhead

Date: 13th Sep 2016 @ 6:18pm

Roald Dahl Day has been a thriving success!

We all gathered for an assembly at the end of the day to share some of the fantastic work produced in each class. Year 6 performed a poem from Charlie and the Chocolate Factory which you can see a video of below. Years 1 to 5 shared a wide range of dazzling work (from extended writing to various styles of artwork) - photographs can be seen below!

During the assembly, we drew names from the BFG's 'dream jar' to find out who had won the Association's Gloriumptious Roald Dahl competition. We invited three very special people to the stage to draw names from the jar (all of whom share their birthday with Roald Dahl!): Stanley in Y2, Bailey in Y3 and our very own Sandye!

The overall winner of the 29-CD Roald Dahl Audiobook Collection was Sara (Y5). Five runner-up prizes (a BFG Activity & Sticker Book) were also won.

Thank you to everyone who donated £1 by entering the competition! We have raised over £140 to replenish the stock of Roald Dahl novels in our school library.

In search of a golden ticket!, by Mrs Pratten

Date: 13th Sep 2016 @ 2:14pm

We enjoyed learning more about Roald Dahl,  creating a disgusting marvellous medicine and designing an extra child to go round the chocolate factory. Last of all we had the chance to win a golden ticket but which chocolate bar had the wining ticket? The lucky boy was Sam!!

Water fun!, by Mrs Pratten

Date: 5th Jul 2016 @ 7:37pm

The Bears were testing their volume and capacity skills today. estimating whether 500 ml of water would fit in different containers. They then had to work out exactly  what the vcaoacity was by measuring what was left.

Estimating measurements, by Mrs Pratten

Date: 4th Jul 2016 @ 3:58pm

The Bears enjoyed using their estimating skills when comparing measurements. They had to use a ruler, choose something to measure and then estimate whether it would be bigger or smaller than their ruler. Then guess again how many rulers it would be eg half, three and then measure accurately. The Bears were brilliant and showed excellent measuring skills.

Sports For Schools Event , by Mrs Fletcher

Date: 24th May 2016 @ 2:17pm

This morning we welcomed Tony our sportivator and GB diver James Denny into school. The first part of the morning was spent with each class  completing their circuit challenge. It was an amazing sight seeing every child exercising with a huge smile. The atmosphere in the hall was electric! Our fantastic sports leaders helped to run the event and they did an amazing job.

Once all of the circuits were complete we had an assembly. James spoke about his journey to becoming a Team GB diver. He talked about effort and positive thinking. He also told the children lots of interesting facts about his sport. It was great to get the chance to see the silver medal he won at the 2014 Commonwealth competing with Tom Daly in the 10m synchronised event. James also demonstrated how to do a back somersault and a handstand on the edge of the stage.

It  was a FANTASTIC morning at Longton Primary
