Arts week - Monday , by Miss Reynolds
Date: 20th May 2019 @ 3:45pm
What a start to arts week! First of all, we were spoilt by having Hilary Robinson (author of a Christmas Truce and other WW1 stories) come to school and kick off our week of creativity. School parliament were lucky enough to have lunch with her and she even ran a Writers workshop for some children - it was great. Today in year 5, we have had a carousel of activities, including : charcoal sketching, colour printing, oil pastel drawing and creating poppy templates for our whole school beach art project tomorrow!
Don't forget that tomorrow we’re at Ainsdale all day. Please wear school uniform tops, a pair of your own shorts, cap and trainers. You can also bring buckets and spades to play with! Don’t forget sunscreen either!

Multi-faith week, by Miss Reynolds
Date: 1st Apr 2019 @ 3:49pm
Last week we took part in multi faith week. We were a little later than the rest of the school because we’d been away enjoying Hothersall Lodge, but we soon caught up! We spent the week looking at religious clothing and what significance they have in those religions. We also looked at PeaceMala bracelets and discussed equality and discrimaination. We have created these 3D paper mashier faces portraying some of the religious people that we discussed throughout the week...we’re really proud of them! Some children were even kind enough to be our very own religious experts and shared their own beliefs with us.

Thank you to everyone who supported our Toy sale over the last 2 weeks, whether you donated or bought.
The children voted on the charity they wished to support, with an overwhelming majority they chose Guide Dogs for the Blind.
We are contacting them to arrange for them to come into school so we can present them with the money and find out a little more about the work they do.
THANKYOU we raised £
First day back , by Miss Reynolds
Date: 25th Feb 2019 @ 3:23pm
Today was our first day of school and in the morning a gritter came in to the car park, we need 5 names for the new gritters. We stood and learned about gritters and that there are 52 of them in Lancashire which is equivalent to 4000 miles of road to cover. We are doing a new topic about inventors and inventions, like how Alexander Bell invented the telephone. We read a book about Professor Branestawm , we only read chapter 1 in which he built a time machine.
Priory taster day, by Miss Reynolds
Date: 14th Feb 2019 @ 3:03pm
First when we arrived at Priory high school academy, we did some tricky maths problems with Mr Baker. We did our 6 times tables and 4 tricky timetable grids. Next we went to science, we experimented with alkaline and acids. We made indicators to seee if it was acid or alkaline and they all went lots of different colours. After that, it was French, we played some games like quiz, quiz, trade - it was good to practice some stuff we already knew. Most of the quiz, quiz, trades were cognates or near-cognates, they were easy to read because the are very similar to English. After having pasta and sauce for lunch, we had a fun badminton session learning how to do forehand and backhand. We learnt how to serve, but me and Jasmine weren’t the greatest at serving! Then we said our goodbyes and headed off home just in time for asssembly.

This week we have done are big school write and it has been all about WW1. The best two pieces from each year group will be selected to go on display in are WW1 corrider. We also learnt about the chinese culture as we are doing that for our class assembly. Aswell as that, are topic this term is shang dynasty, which was a time in history and Emperor Tang was the first ruler of the shang dynasty.
In french we have been learning all the weathers, so we did powerpoints and we presented them infront of the whole class. The other groups had to figure out which weather it was from looking at the picture, but there was a twist because the group that was presenting ther powerpoint ,had to say it all in french and when you were going to answer there question that they were going to say you had to answer it in french.
With co-ordinates we went in the hall and layed tape on the ground and we played a game off chess it is a pretty difficult game.then the day after that we had a whole day in the computer sweet ,which was fun, and wrote instruction for the co-ordinate game.

Last week we did an experiment on cress to see who could grow the tallest cress. One team did torch light only, another team did sugar water and a team did salt water. Some of the other things the teams did was maximise and minimise the amount of water. The one with the torch light is growing the tallest since its trying to reach the sun light. The salt and sugar water one is not growing any cress, some others also didn't grow at all.

Today we have been investigating Miss Reynolds` wonder which is about how many people can fit inside our ball-cage,which is in our massive playground. We worked in threes to measure how wide the ball-cage is and how high it is. To do this we went outside with measuring sticks to find the length. When we came in from lunch we started to learn about Shang Dynasty, which is in China. Our teacher read us a story about Wan-Nian's calendar. Did you know that Miss Reynolds can speak a little bit of chinese herself. Together the class created a Shang Dynasty wonder sheet ...
Maths investigation today, by Miss Reynolds
Date: 7th Jan 2019 @ 2:59pm
Our maths investigation was very interesting! We were trying to figure out how many people we could fit inside the ball cage, but the ball cage was locked! We realised that we didn’t need to get inside, if we knew how many rows of people we could fit in, we could figure it out. However, then someone pointed out that there was in fact loaaaaads of room higher up if we could stack people. So then we learnt about volume and how we could figure out the best way to stack people so they’d fit! It caused lots of arguments about best strategies, including jenga stacks, piggy backs and cinnamon roll towers! We realised that there were issues with our assumptions because some groups had smaller members, and other had much taller ones... this led us to refine our statement: how many Juliettes can you fit in compared to how many Eddies? We still can’t decide on the best way to stack them though!

Last Friday, we enjoyed our phenomenal class compliment treat. We got to wear our PJ's and bring pillows and blankets in. We also got to watch Arthur Christmas - an awesome movie! So far this week we have been up-levelling loathsomely boring sentences into magnificent, academic sentences. We also got to learn about the festival of Hannukah, as it is the second day of Hannukah today. It is a special Jewish festival that the celebrate for eight days because of a miracle that somehow made the candle last for eight days even though there was only enough oil for one day!

We watched the true story of the three little pigs where the wolf was innocent and he didn't kill the pigs,we thought at first the pigs and the wolf were both innocent but then only the wolf was innocent. We were thinking about bias and perspectives , which were hard to understand at first, but then we understood it.Later in the future, we will be writing a newspaper artical of the wolf being innocent. We came up with alot of headlines for the newspaper here are a few of our headlines:a cup of lies from preposterous pig porky pies from Saskia; despicable pigs ruin it again from Jolie; and victim wolf verses criminal pigs from Holly. We enjoyed it can't wait to write it next week!
Wonder, by Mrs Fletcher
Date: 21st Sep 2018 @ 10:46am
It has been a week where wonder has been all around us.
On Wednesday we were privileged to welcome the Osigili Masai warriors. Their show was an awe and wonder moment. We all learnt so much about the life and coulture of the Maasai people. The rest of the day was spent furthering our knowledge and feeding our wonder.Thursday began with a wonder assembly. Having watched the story of how the elephant got its trunk the whole school were posed with the question of how did this elephant get its colours? They were shown a picture of a colourful elephant and then the beautifully carved elephant itself. The buzz and enthusiasm for writing was amazing as the classes went off to write.
The Bongos came up with spectacular ideas.
They were then given a data investigation to do ordering elephants, followed by learning to read, write and say numbers to 10 in Swahili. The day ended having fun learning a Swahili song called Jambo Branagh - recommend by Mr Kennedy.
Homework was sent home yesterday with a note on it about ideas for projects.
Have a happy weekend.

Ancient Time Pieces, by Miss Reynolds
Date: 10th Jul 2018 @ 8:27am
Hello!
This week we are going to be looking at ancient civilizations and exploring them through their time pieces. The children will be researching different means of keeping track of time and will be trying to create their own versions using the basic scientific principles behind the device.
However, the children are creating their own investigations. They are to create the best conditions for their time piece and it should be able to keep an minute, 10 minutes, half an hour or an hour. They will be creating a fair test to ensure that their time piece is roughly accurate within 10% margins of error. The children are creating these time pieces almost entirely independently and will be sourcing the materials themselves - this is where we may need your help!
If we have stuff in school, it is not a problem, but I envisage some children may want other resources. I will be telling them that they are only to use stuff lying around the house, maybe using bottles from recycling, or bits of cardboard... please don't feel compelled to go out and buy a whole variety of resources!
Just thought I would give you a heads up if they come home scavenging the bins for boxes or tins!
