Hindu temple visit, by Mrs McLennan

Date: 13th Mar 2019 @ 12:27pm

Namaste. We have been inspired by our trip to the Hindu temple. We were awed by the shrines, the paintings of Gods on the ceilings and the offerings being made. We even did some meditating.

Charity Toy Sale, by Mrs Catterall

Date: 11th Mar 2019 @ 8:38pm

Thank you to everyone who supported our Toy sale over the last 2 weeks, whether you donated or bought.

The children voted on the charity they wished to support, with an overwhelming majority they chose Guide Dogs for the Blind.

We are contacting them to arrange for them to come into school so we can present them with the money and find out a little more about the work they do.

THANKYOU we raised £

Library visit, by Mrs McLennan

Date: 8th Mar 2019 @ 10:14am

A visit to see Tom at the library to celebrate the wonder of story. We listened to three stories and had the chance to make lots of sound effects...happy reading!

Seed observation , by Mrs McLennan

Date: 8th Mar 2019 @ 8:09am

We spent the afternoon observing a range of seeds. We used hand lenses to observe the detail more closely, drew pictures and measured carefully.

Pebbles, by Mrs McLennan

Date: 4th Mar 2019 @ 4:27pm

Today we have been using conjunctions in our writing to extend our ideas. We were writing sentences with happy and sad endings.

I wonder if your costume is sorted for World Book day yet...could you bring in your favourite book to share and a pebble too. The pebble needs to be a similar size to last time: not too big, not too small, just right!

Maths, by Mrs McLennan

Date: 1st Mar 2019 @ 5:27pm

Continuing with the theme of Jim and the beanstalk, today we used our maths skills to make a giant footprint. Firstly we drew round our foot then measured the length and width. We doubled these numbers using our addition skills to make a footprint twice as big as our own. We couldn’t believe how much bigger it looked. For some of us we doubled this again so that our new footprint really was gigantic in size.

Date: 28th Feb 2019 @ 4:04pm

Our theme for the term is Diggin’ it and so we have started by reading the story Jim and the beanstalk written by Raymond Briggs. Following on from this we have improved our observational skills in drawing leaves and have pressed leaves on to clay to see the imprint and detail.

Musical mayhem, by Mrs McLennan

Date: 15th Feb 2019 @ 3:33pm

What a week! We have made our instruments and are really pleased with them. We thought about what materials we would use, how we would join each part and how we would decorate it so it didn’t look like a cardboard box! I wonder if this has made us want to be a designer or a musician.

Gymnastic and dance fun - Year 2, by Mrs Pratten

Date: 13th Feb 2019 @ 12:43pm

Year 2 enjoyed a morning at Priory yesterday, taking part in a gymnastic and dance festival along with lots of other schools. They thoroughly enjoyed it and received a special certificate -The spirit of the games - very well done!

A big thank you to Mrs Taylor for helping with the event.

RE and science, by Mrs McLennan

Date: 8th Feb 2019 @ 4:06pm

Another busy week has gone by with lots of learning. Mrs Cowburn and I are really pleased with how hard everyone is working. In maths we’ve had lots of fun playing clock games, this afternoon we have been creative in designing a page on Hindu Gods. Next week, we will make our musical instrument. We have designed a prototype and thought about the materials we might use based on our science learning. If you have any cardboard, tubs etc please bring in next week.

Projects, by Mrs McLennan

Date: 1st Feb 2019 @ 4:54pm

A few pictures of our projects. Mrs Cowburn and I have been really impressed with your creative designs and look forward to seeing more designing next week when we design our musical instruments. I wonder if all our science work will help us when we think what materials to use. On that note, next week, if you have any empty boxes or containers, please do bring them into school as we might use them as part of the instrument’s structure.

Clock design , by Mrs McLennan

Date: 29th Jan 2019 @ 3:44pm

This afternoon we have made clocks in preparation for telling the time. Luckily we already know from our fraction work what halves and quarters are. I wonder if this will help us?

Maths, by Mrs McLennan

Date: 24th Jan 2019 @ 4:31pm

This week we have been finding fractions of amounts. We are really confident now and have been sharing our learning with each other. In science, we have investigated materials that are stretchy. I wonder what the stretchiest material in the world is.

Science, by Mrs McLennan

Date: 17th Jan 2019 @ 4:14pm

As part of our topic ‘Design Away’ we started the afternoon listening to the story Rosie Revere, Engineer. She’s an inventor who makes gadgets from different materials. We then used our senses to try and guess objects that were hidden in a bag and then sort the objects into groups. Could the objects be squashed or not?
