Wedding day fun, by Mrs Pratten

Date: 7th Dec 2017 @ 5:42pm

Thank you for helping the Penguins look super smart for the wedding day, they all looked ๐Ÿ˜‰

First we looked at how Christians traditionally plan and celebrate marriage. We then looked at how Hindus celebrate marriage,we found out the bride wears a purple and white dress, the groom, white. They move round a flame 4 times, the bride receives a necklace to show she is married and they give garlands to show the joining of the 2 families. We had a go at making our own paper garlands, we had to use a growth mindset because it was tricky! By the end we were experts and they looked great.

Penguins looking good!, by Mrs Pratten

Date: 30th Nov 2017 @ 6:42pm

The Penguins had a fab visit today from Warburtons, we learnt some of their history, about eating healthier and made our own "rainbow" sandwich. We had to wash our hands and put on hats to stop germs from spreading. We got to taste our fillings first and then choose, best of all we could eat it!

To help with homework I have photographed some facts and the healthy eating chart.๐Ÿ‘

Wednesday learning, by Mrs Pratten

Date: 29th Nov 2017 @ 7:17pm

Today the children enjoyed playing the "cup game" in Maths.Filling up a cup with cubes and then investigating whether their cubes could be divided  in to 1/2. 1/3 and a 1/4. If it could they scored 2, 3 or 4 points.

In Science we were thinking about why excercise is important and what happens to our heart rate. We set up different activities, thought about how they would affect our heart rate and then tested it out. Some of the activities definitely got our pulses racing!

In Science we are getting our hearts beating with some excersises and understanding how important excercise is to keeping healthy.

Survival!, by Mrs Pratten

Date: 24th Nov 2017 @ 4:05pm

The Penguins were stranded on a desert island this afternoon and had to think what they would miss, what would make them happy and what they would absolutely need to survive. They had to write a note asking for things and ssend it out in the sea in a bottle and hope that someone would find it.

Yesterday we looked at road safety and discussed things we should do to keep safe around roads and crossing the road.

Hop you all have a lovely weekend ๐Ÿ˜€๐Ÿ‘

Fraction fun, by Mrs Pratten

Date: 22nd Nov 2017 @ 7:13pm

We had fun this afternoon with fractions, we folded paper in different ways to show halves and quarters. Next we shared "sweets" between different numbers of children and used different grids, we even found a quarter of 48! Last but not least we had to choose whether we would rather eat half or a quarter of a chocolate bar and explain why. Then we could eat half but had to take half home. A big thank you to those parents and grandparents who were able to make it, a copy of notes and example questions will be coming home tomorrow in the homework bags.

We also had fun and did some really amazing thinking finding fractions of amounts on Tuesday. Our challenge was to find different ways of making half - we came up with some really clever ideas๐Ÿ‘

On Wednesday you are invited in to class for a lesson in Maths, hope you can join us.

Parliament week, by Mrs Pratten

Date: 17th Nov 2017 @ 5:10pm

This week it has been Parliament week and the Penguins have been finding out about the Houses of Parliament, who the Prime Minister is, the House of Common and the House of Lords and what colour the seats are. Today we had a debate discussing if we should let people bring in chocolate, crisps or sweets as a snack at playtime. We designed posters to persuade people and then discussed the ideas. The children then had to vote by marking a "ballot paper" and I have counted them and..........17 votes for keeping snacks healthy  (the chocolate, sweets and crisps 12) so the Penguins have definitely got the healthy message๐Ÿ˜€

Our learning so far this week, by Mrs Pratten

Date: 15th Nov 2017 @ 7:01pm

This week so far we have enjoyed another story with a twist, The true story of the three little pigs. We are writing our own versions changing some parts of the story , today we thought about our story maps.

In Maths we have been finding out all about pictograms and  collected some data on our favourite fruit - which was a resounding vote for strawberries. We had to think about what to do when the picture was worth more than 1 and how to make the different amounts.

Today we have looked at finding out the different stages we go through as we grow older , the children enjoyed looking at some photos of me with my family when  I was their age. The children are welcome to bring in some baby photos so we can see how they have changed! ( And can see how cute they were, sorry still are of course!!)

Remembrance Day, by Mrs Pratten

Date: 10th Nov 2017 @ 5:39pm

We wrote an acrostic poem spelling "poppy", wrote about what we had dressed up  as and also designed a medal. We had a school assembly and observed the 2  minute silence, Poppy told us about her Great Grandad and his efforts in the war.

Today we have been learning about how baby animals grow and change, how some babies are not like the adults and that a baby snake is hatchling, a baby elephant is a calf and a baby goat is a kid!
