Last weeks fun., by Mrs Catterall

Date: 26th Feb 2018 @ 6:51am

Last week was a busy first week back.  We spent a lot of the week focusing on our new topic of the Stone Age.

We looked at 2 stories UG and The Stone Age Boy. We read in pairs, acted it out, wrote diary entries and discovered all about life in the Stone Age. We made our own paint brushes from sticks and other items outside, we made mud paint and then had a go at painting Stone Age animals with it all.  It was very tricky as it was cold and windy, it made the experience all the more real.

I wonder what we will be discovering this week.

Yesterday we explored all things forces. We went on a forces walk around school, we thought deeper using different skills of discussing - odd one out, true or false statements.

We had fun exploring friction. We picked up jelly cubes with straws, then added oil and had another go - it was really tricky.

Some groups began to explore different surfaces and how a car travels over them.  It was so busy we only have a few photos but we promise to take more next time as we continue our exploration.

More Orienteering , by Mrs Catterall

Date: 25th Jan 2018 @ 8:54pm

Today we went outside for orienteering. We had maps showing coloured cones.  There were coloured cones dotted around the ball cage just like our map.  Each map had a different route on it.  We had to follow the map and write down the codes under each cone.  There were 8 different maps to try.  It got a bit tricker towards the end as all the cones became white and we had remember to keep our map the correct way around.

Date: 5th Jan 2018 @ 9:10pm

HAPPY NEW YEAR TO YOU ALL
I hope you have all had a fabulous Christmas and New Year and made lots of family memories.  I'm looking forward to hearing all about it on Monday.

I have attached to the main class page a curriculum overview and letter for this half term.

One thing I have enjoyed doing as a family this holiday is sitting down together to plan 1 full family day of activities each month.  These aren't necesarily activities that cost lots of money, the focus has been on something we all take part in together.  Some of the things we have selected are a walk and picnic on the beach, a bike ride and ice cream, a day baking all sorts of cakes for members of the family, A day at the leisure centre swimming and playing badminton.   I have attached a grid we completed, if this is something you might like to do yourselves please feel free to print it out.
