The Week Ahead, by Mrs Fletcher

The Bongos have got a busy week ahead of them. We are going to start our check up week on Monday and aim to have all of the assessments done by Friday. However we will monitor how things are going and if needs be we will complete the check ups next week.

In between our check up activities we will be going over fractions, shape and measure in maths. We will be going over lots of areas of grammar in our special grammar books. In spelling we will be looking at words with or after w. Writing this week will see the children writing explanations of the seasons and weather in Britain and an animal themed story.

We will continue to learn about Sikhism in RE and to work on our Henri Rousseau inspired collages.

Today the Bongos are hard at work creating collage backgrounds in the style of the French painter Henri Rousseau. 

Before they started their work they went outside to investigate the shapes, sizes and colours of grasses and leaves on the bog garden.

I hope all of the Bongos have had a fun Bank Holiday weekend.

This week in English the Bongos will be doing both fiction and non fiction comprehension activities. They will be taking part in grammar challenges and in writing will be writing instructions linked to the activities they have been doing with Mr Pearson on plants. Spelling this week will focus on words including al and all, ar after w and the suffixes ment and ness

Maths this week will be focussing on using inverse opertations to find missing numbers, multiplication, division and more reasoning activities.

In RE we will be continuing to learn about Sikh Gurdwara's. 

Art- begin to create the backgrounds for our Henri Rousseau pictures

We will be moving a mile everyday too.

Please remember to bring your reading books to school tomorrow along with your completed homework.

Also remember to use Spellodrome- only a handful of Bongos have been using it and it really is a great way to improve spelling whilst having fun !

Bubbles, by Mrs Fletcher

Today the title of our writing is Bubbles. To help fire up our ideas we watched a short cartoon about a boy who floated away in a bubble. We also went outside and blew some bubbles and as they floated away imagined what adventure's we would have if we could float away inside a big bubble.

I hope everybody has enjoyed the sunshine this weekend and that those of you have been on St George's parade had fun.

Here is an outline of what the children will be getting up to with Mrs Fletcher this week.

Monday :

  • identifying verbs in sentences and then using verbs in sentences of their own.
  • adding two digit numbers
  • adding ing, ed, er and est to the end of words
  • learning about the countries that make up the United Kingdom.

Tuesday:

  • Comprehension activities in Guided reeading
  • continuing to add endings outlined previously
  • subtraction of 2 digit numbers
  • character studies of the main characters in The Wind in The Willows
  • learning about Sikh Gurdwara

Wednesday:

  • recognising singular and plurarls using s and es
  • using analogy to improve spelling
  • maths arithmetic- using addition and subtraction to find missing numbers
  • maths rerasoning- addition word problems
  • handwriting- clear joins, consistent size of letters

Friday:

  • Maths reasoning- subtraction word problems
  • look at a, au, aw and oor in spellings icluding l or ll
  • Fantasy story writing on the theme of Bubbles
  • Look at the work of the artist Henri Rousseau

IT'S GOING TO BE A BRILLIANT WEEK !

Well what a busy week! It's been four jam packed days of fun and learning. The Bongos have come back after their Easter break ready to impress with their behaviour for learning. Highlights of the week have been the assembly by Isaac Towers, the smoothies, move a mile, acting out emotions as we come through a door, telling Mrs Fletcher that she has 47 fingers !!!! 

The children have worked hard in maths this week showing just how amazing their place value knowledge is - well done everybody 😀

The children have also impressed me with their work on past and present tense and have been showing off their knowledge of grammar and punctuation in today's writing lesson.

Don't forget to have a go on Spellodrome over the weekend .

I hope everybody has had a good holiday and that the Easter Bunny visited you all.

Here is a brief outline of some of the things we will be getting up to over the next few days.

RE think about the significance of doors and the feelings they instil in us when they are opened or closed. Talk about different doors we know and use.

As well as thiese activities the children will be doing English, Maths, ICT,PE and Science with Mr Pearson on Thursday.

I am looking forward to seeing you all tomorrow morning, with Jury Service and the holidays it seems a long time since I was with you all. I have missed you all.

As I am not in school next week the children have brought home an outline of homework for this week and the Easter holidays. Over the next 3 weeks please could you spend time reading, going over the 2,5,10 and 3 times tables, telling the time and ofcourse adding a little something to the wonderful holiday passports.

The Bongos have been learning about wolves today. They have written some super non chronolgical reports using the knowledge they have learnt.

We have also been outside using commands such as forwards, turn clockwise and turn anti clockwise to follow directions.

This afternoon the Bongos are looking at art work from Kenya. They are experimenting with line and shape whilst Kenyan music is playing in the background. A few Bongos are making use of our snuggly blankets  and working on the floor.

This morning the Bongos are busy telling the time in 5 minute intervals. Today we have found that telling times past is easy but times to can be tricky. We have also found a way to help us be more confident telling the time to the hour. See the photo

The Bongos have had fun doing table music. They have used different parts of their hands on the table tops to create percussion based music. They have been thinking about dynamics and rhythm.

The Bongos have had a tough week ! They were asked to trial some Year 2 tests and they have worked so hard, with smiles on their faces and great determination to complete them all. I am very proud of them. They have also learnt about the continent of Asia and in particular the country of China. In English we have been continuing to learn about clauses to add detail to our writing and most of the children have had a go at including clauses within sentences in their own dragon themed stories. The projects that came into school earlier in the week look great and I am looking forward to seeing the ones that came in at the end of the week when I was out of class tomorrow. 

 

Journey to the moon, by Mrs Fletcher

As part of our topic on explorers the children have been learning about Neil Armstrong and his journey to the moon and his historic walk on the moon. They have been busy writing stories from the view point of Neil Armstrong.

I am looking forward to reading the finished stories.

This week has been check up week and the children have worked hard and with determination to complete check ups in reading, maths, spelling and grammar.

Today with Mr Pearson we have been measuring in cm. we went outside to measure our strides and a standing jump.

This afternoon we had a visit from two firemen called Alistair and Andy. They came to talk to us about fire safety. As well as talking to the children they showed them 2 DVDs about what to do incase of the rare event of an fire happening. 

The children were then given the chance to act out a fire plan. They had lots of fun learning important messages.
