This week in our English we had a new topic Aladdin and a new way to do our story writing. The way it worked was we write what Mr Pearson does on the right hand side of the page and then we write indepentently of our own.

In our maths lessons this week we leant about what is the same between a fraction and the decimal.

In our grammar lesson, we learnt our weekly spellings which were ‘mixture adventure, capture, feature, moisture, nature, picture and vulture’ we learnt different ways to learn them one of them were practicing them by pyramids.

In our topic lessons we learnt about roman baths by explaining the parts and then we wrote a fact file saying all the parts in it.

In our French lesson we recapped everything we have done like numbers up to 20, the rooms of houses and learnt people’s names like mum in French is ma mere.

In our Cricket we did catching throwing and bowling drills in teams of 5 in 5 teams.

In our I.T lesson we had a go at online instruments like piano guitar and others.

In guided reading we did a whole class comprehension called pharaohs and mummies from Mr Pearson booklet called comprehension ninjas .

Times table test website, by Mr Pearson

Date: 23rd Jan 2020 @ 11:49am

Dear Parents

As you will be aware in June this year all Year 4 children will be assessed on their times tables knowledge. This means that your child will need to be fluent in all of the times tables up to 12 x 12.

To prepare for the assessment our maths homework for the immediate future will be to learn a focus times table each week. The children will need to know the answers in a random order and not just be able to count on, as in the test the children only have 6 seconds to answer each question. We will assess the children on a Tuesday in the back of their maths homework book to enable you to keep a check on how your child is progressing. We would hope all children would score full marks, however any child who makes several errors will keep that times tables focus for the following week. Your support in this matter is invaluable and will benefit your child greatly as they progress through school.

This is the website we will be using to practice for the test in June

This week has been check up week and we have competed tests in maths, reading and grammar, punctuation and spelling.

This week in English we learnt all about complex sentences on Monday, we have also been looking at inverted commas. We then used a short film based on the Romans to write our story.

We have studied how the Romans built their roads and the reasons why.

We have been learning our lines and songs for our class assembly.

In this week’s maths lesson, we have been learning a lot about fractions of amounts for example 7/10 of 60 = 42. We keep learning and practising our times tables this week we are focusing on 8’s

Moving on to French, we learnt all about the 8 rooms in the house learnt in French.

Instead of P.E maths we did drama and retold the story of snow white, then did our own story to not talk to strangers.

On Friday we presented our class assembly based on our topic the Romans. Everyone agreed it was great acting and singing and we shared our knowledge with parents and the rest of the school.

Penguins 23 November, by Mr Pearson

Date: 28th Nov 2019 @ 12:00pm

In P.E, we had to find different ways to get across a bench and some gymnasts did cartwheels across the bench. At the end of the bench we had to do some sort of jump onto the mat.

In Geography, we did a facts file about Antarctica. How we got the information was from sheets with facts and the internet. We have looked at the weather in the topics and have started planning our own weather report.

In maths, we were mostly trying to learn all our times tables and different strategies in multiplication mentally.

In English, we learnt about conjunctions and putting them into sentences and using them in our writing we have started looking at information texts.

In French, we decided food with like, dislike, love and dislike.

In Grammar, we tried to understand the difference between nouns and pronouns.

On Friday, we did a class write we based on the film Artic Circle we had to rewrite the film.

Weekly spellings and this week were (immature, immeasurable, impossible immortal, imperfect, impatient, immovable, impolite, and improper)

Next on Monday, in grammar all the class did a whole class comprehension based on Remembrance Day with tricky questions.

Coming onto writing, we had tried to plan our own story based on Mousehole Cat and then on the next day we started writing our own story using our plan and we ran out of time to do it on Tuesday, so we kept on doing it on the next day and a few of us finished it on Wednesday. On Friday, we used editing stations around the classroom to edit our final piece.

In maths, we were focusing on leaning the 6 and 9 times table, we have been studying division facts. We are becoming fluent and are now developing mastery skills by using and applying our knowledge.
