We took in the role of a news reporter, thought of some questions to ask key people at the event and then 2 people took on the role of those characters while we interviewed them.  Our 2 hot seaters were fantastic.

We have spent the last few weeks learning all about plants. 

We have drawn some of the plants around school, planted and cared for our own pot of cress seeds, designed and made a model of a flower. We are also looking after some tomato plants and some beautiful pink flowers for Mrs Catterall.

We worked in teams and as a class, to design and set up an investigation to find out the conditions needed for a seed to germinate.  Fingers crossed. I wonder which one will germinate and grow first? We will keep you posted.

I hope you have all had an amazing half term. I will back in school on Monday morning and can't wait to hear all about you holiday adventures. 

We have a lot of topics planned for this half term - which will be great fun.  Lets hope the sun keeps shining so we can get outside as much as possible.

This week we are going to be starting our English work by looking at the story of The Iron Man by Ted Hughes. 

In Maths - will be having a Multiplication Monday.  I hope you have all been practising those times tables.

The rest of the week will focus on Addition and Subtraction of 2 and 3 digit numbers. 

Please make sure you bring your PE kit back to school this week.

We have been extremely busy this week preparing for our performance.  You are in for a real treat.  The children have worked incredibly hard, I am so proud of them already.   If you havn't bought your tickets yet please see Linda in the office.

Costumes.

We have managed to make most of the costumes now, I have asked the girls to bring in a pair of black leggings if possible and the boys will be wearing their school trousers, remember to come back into school at night still wearing them!  Some children have trousers already organised by school and they know if this doesn't apply to them.

World Book Day, by Mrs Catterall

We had some amazing outfits for World Book Day this year. Many of the children had brought along the book that inspired their costume choice. 

We spent the day being an illustrator learning to use tracing paper to transfer the design to paper.  They looked amazing. 

During the day we also had a trip to Longton Library, Tom read us some great stories which we could all join in with.

Charity Toy Sale, by Mrs Catterall

Thank you to everyone who supported our Toy sale over the last 2 weeks, whether you donated or bought.

The children voted on the charity they wished to support, with an overwhelming majority they chose Guide Dogs for the Blind.  

We are contacting them to arrange for them to come into school so we can present them with the money and find out a little more about the work they do.

Homework, by Mrs Catterall

Over the next few weeks homework will be to learn their lines for the play.   This is a big step up from previous years, when they have had a supporting role. I know they will all be amazing, your support in helping them learn the lines without a sheet is much appreciated. Further details of tickets etc will be sent out next week. 

Any additional time can be spent on spelling the year 3/4 statutory words and practising times tables.  All children checked their username and password worked for Times Table Rockstars today, please keep using this.  If you have lost your login information please come and see me.

It has been a busy first week back.   The Penguins have started to think about their play - further info to follow.

In Maths we have been working on multiplication and using the grid method to solve calculations like 35 x 8, 126 x 4, and 34 x 52.  

We have been developing our understanding of conjunctions this week, thinking about the differences between co-ordinating and subordinating conjunctions and which to use in a sentence.  Ask them what FANBOYS stand for?

In English we have read the story the 'Escape from Pompeii' and written descriptive paragraphs of the city before the eruption. Tomorrow we are going to focus the the eruption itself.  

We watched a video of someone drawing a mountain scene at the start of the week and then tried to create our own using pencil crayons to develop our shading skills. 

A gritter visit!, by Mrs Pratten

Today we had an exciting visit from a gritter truck. All classes went to see it and we learnt some very interesting facts, ask me what I can remember! It was huge, we were able to walk around it and look carefully at all the different parts to it. The one that came to school was called Holly  Chilloughby , we have been asked to think of funny names for the others.Get your thinking caps on and let us know ,we will enter your ideas into the competition.

Please keep learning your times tables at home. There are sheets on the maths section of our class page you can print out. The children like playing hit the button games on the computer as well. 

This week we played lots of times Table loop games. Lots of working together as a pair or in groups.
