Egyptian Detectives

The Hippos have had a fantastic day out at The Manchester Museum at the University of Manchester.

The morning was spent working with Hannah a member of staff at the museum. She set the children the challenge of being detectives using clues to find various artefacts in the gallery. The children were super at finding these. They were also amazing at putting pictures in the correct place on a timeline amazing Hannah by getting all of them right!

Finding artefacts that might have belonged to the Chantress Asru was great fun and the children were once again very succeessful at finding them.

In the discovery centre the children worked in groups to identify artefacts which included a mummified crocodile, a wooden ear and kohl jars. They then got the chance to build a pyramid using foam blocks- it looked great when it was finished.

One of the highlights of the trip was seeing the mummy and coffin of Asru.

After lunch we wandered around the museum looking at all of the other galleries. The skeletons of wild animals and Stan the T Rex were very popular.

Another amazing exhibit was the video image of an MRI scan of a sarcophagus which removed each layer until it clearly showed the skeleton of the mummy.

It really was a great day out and The Hippos highly recommend this museum as a great day out.
