European Languages Day

Today has been European Day of Languages. To celebrate this day the children have tasted some German food. They tasted Bretzels, Frankfurters, salted pretzels, German Gingerbread, choco softies and multi vitamin juice to name just some. This was a great hit with all of the children hab]ving a taste of the foods and finding that they quite liked them. After the excitement of food tasting we learnt the names of some foods in German such as Eis for icecream.

Next we learnt some facts about the Country such as Berlin is the Capital City, Germany in German is Deutschland and that German is also spoken in parts of Switzerland and in Austria.

Just before lunch we learnt about the Brothers Grimm who were from Germany and who wrote lots of Fairy Tales such as Hansel and Gretel. We listened to one of their stories Snow White.

After lunch we worked with Mrs Bottomley and Mrs Gray to make Bavarian Cuckoo clocks. The day ended with an assembly to share what each class had been learning .
