Inspirational Words

This morning the children were treated to a truly inspirational assembly. Seven young people currently studying at Hutton Grammar School Sixth Form came to talk to the children. Each of the young people had been a pupil at Longton. The invitation was extended to them as part of our current SEAL topic Going For Goals. We thought that it would be good for the current Longton pupils to hear from past pupils about the goals they had set and what they had done to achieve them.

Laura, Peter, Kayley, Ellie, Olivia , Nina and Ewan all spoke confidently and engaged the children. The messages given from each of the young people was individual and unique to them and I am sure every child in Longton could relate to one of their stories. The children heard from Laura that she loved art, music, history and english whilst she was a pupil here and that she is now studying those subjects at A level. She also told the children that she had a dream to study at Oxford University and that next week she is going there for the day to a taster session in History.

Peter told the children that he wanted to be a scientist from a very early age and that he is now one step away from achieving this and that this time next year he will be studying science at university.

Kayley told the children that her dream was to be a lawyer and that everything she had done through her time at high school was going to help her to achieve her dream.

Olivia told the children that she wants to be an author which she knows is a tough goal to achieve. She explained that she will not give up on her dream and will continue to work hard to make it happen.

Ellie shared her dream of being an educational psychologist or teacher and told the children that at Priory she had been able to do a GCSE in childcare to help her achieve this. She also spoke about her role as a peer mentor which allowed her to work with and support younger children.

Nina spoke to the children about never giving up saying that although A levels are hard she is determined to pass them.

Ewan spoke mostly about achievements outside of school and the opportunities that can come through organisations such as scouting. He also spoke to the children about making it their goal to be themselves, to believe in who they are and not to be swayed by others. His final message was for the quieter, shy pupils telling them that their time will come that being quiet doesn't stop you from standing out in selection processes and achieving your dreams.

This group of young people really were inspirational and impressed us all with their achievements and their determination to achieve. They really did show that Longton Pupils do shine!
