School nurse

This afternoon we were visited by 2'schoolmnurses from Penwortham. The nurses came to talk to us about being healthy and especially having a healthy diet.

We started with an icebreaker where we had 3 minutes to write down as many healthy and unhealthy foods we could think of.Some people thought of 10 healthy foods and Grace thought of 11 unhealthy foods.

The children shared their knowledge about keeping healthy and had lots of great ideas to share.

We learnt that sugars and fats are empty calories as they give us a fast burst of energy but if we don't use them our body stores them and we out on weight.

Protein- comes mostly from meat and contains vitamins that help us to grow.

Dairy- anything that comes from a cow except the meat. Gives us calcium to help our bones and teeth

Fruit and vegetables - should have 1 piece of fruit from the rainbow every single day.

Carbohydrates- starchy foods and we need them to give us energy.Sports people have a pasta meal before an event as they release energy over a long time.
