Week Beginning 14th January

As usual the Hippos have had a busy week.

As well as completeing their check up activities they have done some fantastic work in Literacy. On Tuesday they got to use their knowledge of instruction texts to invent a magical potion. When the children came into class the room was dark and had transformed into the potion room from Hogwarts. As they settled down at their tables one child from each group poured the magic ingredient into a potion jar to create a colourful foaming fountain. This set the scene and fed their imaginations. After looking at the history of The Felicis Felix potion from the Harry Potter encyclopedia the children set to work to write the recipe for making a golden potion that brings about confidence and which if spilt leaps through the air like a goldfish. The ideas were amazing! Everything from gold rings to honey, syrup and goldfish scales were being added to make it golden in colour. Whilst frog legs and kanagroo legs were mentioned as ways of making it jump. A fantastic lesson with brilliant learning and behaviour well done Hippos.

We have been joined by Mr Poulson, a trainee teacher from Liverpool John Moore University. He is in his third year of training and will be working with us for 9 weeks. I am sure the children will have a  great time in the lessons that he will bve taking charge of over the coming weeks.

For the next 3 weeks Mr Poulson will be teaching Literacy, Numeracy and RE and I will be taching all of the other lessons. From week beginning 11th February until the Easter holidays Mr Poulson will be teaching ICT,Science and topic whilst I teach the other lessons including Literacy and Numeracy.

Over the next two weeks we will be working hard to complete our Enterprise topic so that Mr Poulson can begin his topic of Ancient Egypt. Details of the Yummy Tummy Hippo Bakery sale will be heading home very soon.

I would also like to take this opportunity to congratulate the Hippos on their outstanding behaviour this week. They have impressed all of the adults in school that have worked with them and they shone on Tuesday when we were visited by a headteacher and a teacher from another school. Well done everybody I am very, very proud of you all.
