Welcome back after the October holidays. This half term is all about Julia Donaldson and we will share a story every week. We have made a Gruffalo cafe were the children can enjoy scrambled snake and owl ice cream.....we have started our Christianity learning that leads into the nativity story. we have a busy term ahead and I will send home a new curriculum letter on Friday.

The year 6 buddy organisers have sent home an invite to buddy lunch - everyone in year 5 and reception will be involved.

Wow what a week!, by Mrs Hothersall

We have had lots of fun dressing up as skeletons, witches and spooky creatures. We read the story of pumpkin soup and some of us had a go at scooping out pumpkins...yuk!

We made magic potions and spells in maths...some of us attended the disco on Thursday night and danced the night away🤔

Pour buddies came to play as well.

Have a lovely half term holiday and come back safe on the 6th November ready for a fun filled November and December.

Pumpkin Week, by Mrs Hothersall

Lots of fun in reception this week, we are dressing up like witches, Wizards, skeletons....we are making magic potions, we are painting pumpkins....we will be carving out pumpkins in class. On Wednesday it is sing along Wednesday in class at 9.05am please come along and join in the fun.

We have made the art studio outside all witchy, it looks fantastic. Plus lots more fun.

We got a brand new Apple press and crusher this week for school to use, so in reception we wer the first to have a go. we picked apples off the tree, washed and cut them and then crushed and pressed them. The fresh apple juice was delicious.

We are finding out about Christianity in RE and today we read a story from the bible called The Lost Sheep. We made our own little sheep.

This week our main focus is the story rainbow fish. It will help us to think about sharing and friendships and so links nicely into all the PSHE jigsaw learning we have been doing.

We continue with our number learning, which has been a real success by all this half term. We continue to count to 20 forwards and back....look at learnits....add fish! And much more. In phonics we are learning the sounds h, b, f, ff and also learning the tricky words I, no, go, to into and the.

we will continue to learn songs, tap a beat and rhythm in music ready to share with you all the following week.

This week we are reading the mixed up chameleon and so our focus will be colour mixing! The children are really doing very well with number work and we have already learnt doubles up to 6 + 6....In phonics we are learning e r u ck and starting the tricky words , I , no, go, to the, into.

Its parents evening on Monday and Wednesday so I will hopefully see our then.

 

 

Jigsaw Jenie, by Mrs Hothersall

As part of our PSHE curriculum we have a friend called Jigsaw Jenie he stays in our class and helps us to follow the class rules. This week we have been thinking about gentle hands. We read a story called hands are not for hitting. We then thought about how hands can be kind and gentle. We waved hello and goodbye, we shook hands, we held hands to keep safe when crossing the road and we thought of much more....we decided that we would not hit or push as a class and if someone did something we didn't like in school we would say "please don't do that we don't like it."

We have had fun inside and outside with water. We have had a dinosaur wash... And yellow water inside just for a change. We have washed and scrubbed and filled and emptied!

This week the focus story is blue balloon by Mick Inkpen. We will think about where we would like to go on our balloon. We started PE last week and we will continue with games and simple skills this week. In maths we will continue to count and add and look at shapes.

its the harvest festival in church this week and as always the reception sit at the front, watch out for us singing and joining in!

Yellow week, by Mrs Hothersall

This week we will be looking at the colour yellow. We will focus our literacy on a story by Shirley Hughes called Alfie's feet. We will continue to count and add in maths and also look at measure. We are really working hard with our learn its and we are already up to 4+4=....

In phonics we are learning I,n,m,d phonemes and the simple words in and at. Please support you child at home looking at numbers, phonemes and this week reading books will be coming home.

PE - we are going to have a go at PE this week, fu, fun, fun!

So another busy and fun filled week, all the children are settling in really well and we are learning new skills every week.

This week we are looking at the colour red. We will be reading the story of little red riding hood, thinking about the characters and setting of the story.

We are starting phonics and will learn a new sound each day the sounds this week are s, a, t, p. We should then be able to make simple words for eg. Sat, tap, pat. Yeah the start of reading.

We will be sending home the phonics packs so please encourage your child to tell you what each sound/phoneme is and then have a go at writing that letter.

In maths we are counting to 20, adding granny's cakes and having a little look at shapes.

We will be baking in Friday just like the cakes that red riding hood took to granny.

Thank you to everyone who made it to meet the teacher. We talked about general routines, if you can start to leave your child at the door that would be great. The children have settled into school really well and this would be the next big progression.

I sent home WOW cards and class lists, we will put them in your bags if you did not attend. However there are WOW cards on the blog now for your to download.

Phonics wil start next week and we will send home phonics packs and reading books. Please try to encourage your child to read little and often, every day.

We walked around the fields to collect leaves. We made black and white elephants, we had a go at ordering numbers ourselves - we have worked really hard.

This half term is all about Colour.

This week we will focus on the colours black and white. Our stimulus is a story called Elmer and Wilbur. Elmer is a colourful patchwork elephant and Wilbur is black and white. 

The black and white theme willrun through the week, we will look at patterns and make black and white patterned elephants in the maths area. Also we will continue to count to 10 and beyond and we have already learnt our first learnit 1 + 1 =2 and so this week will learn 2 + 2 =.....

We will go on an autumn leaf walk and collect lots of autumn coloured leaves to make a class patchwork Elmer!

We continue with base lining the children to find out what they already know.
