Busy first week back

Welcome back evrybody. I hope you have all had an enjoyable and relaxing break.

The Hippos have worked really hard (as usual) this week and theuy have chosen what they wanted me to put on the blog this week.

Reading- tjhis term we are learning how to do reading response in the way that the children in Years 4,5 dn 6 do it so that we are ready for action when we move into our new class. We have been looking at texts and then doing tasks about what we have read. So far we have searched for adjectives, created a wanted poster, sketched and labelled a setting and written a blurb.

Topic- we have started to think about our new topic. We thought of things that we would like to know about India, we wrote about the effects visiting a place in the world has had on us. We then made a list of all of the places we had written about and found that the Hippo tribe are a very well travelled group.

Art- we looked at examples of Indian patterns and especially enjoyed looking at the [atterns that had been [ainted on elephants. We used pastels to work in the style of our favourite pattern.

Spelling - this week we have bben learning about pronouns. We all had great fun learning the pronoun song and even more fun writing our own verse. Next week we are going to perform our songs to Year 6.

ICT- we have found out about virtual keyboards and listened to the sounds they can make. Next lesson we will be using the keyboards to make our own music.

Literacy- the scene for our work was set when we walked into the classroom to the sounds of the Match of the Day theme tune. We are using sports to create information books. So far we have put sports into alphabetical order, researched unusual sports, written an introduction for an information page and started to write our own pages to create The Hippo Guide To Sport.

Science- we looked at how toys in the past moved without batteries or electricity and then had fun explaining how a pig moved up and down as part of a mechanical toy.

Maths- this week we have been comparing numbers, rounding numbers up and down and then using the rounded numbers to approximate answers.
