Our blogs

Busy, busy, busy.., by Mrs Pratten

Date: 9th Nov 2017 @ 8:04pm

The Penguins have enjoyed practising their moves for our Christmas production, they were very enthusiastic! They have also been finding out about arrays and how they can help with multiplication.

In our Jigsaw work we were thinking about celebrating differences and how we can't assume for example, all girls like pink and all boys like football. We played a fun game where we had to choose either agree, disagree or not sure to various questions.

Today we have been learning about how baby animals grow and change, how some babies are not like the adults and that a baby snake is hatchling, a baby elephant is a calf and a baby goat is a kid!

Science -Skeletons, by Mrs Catterall

Date: 7th Nov 2017 @ 7:52pm

A fantastic afternoon.

We have had a great time this afternoon trying to answer the question, What does our skeleton look like?

After drawing our initial ideas we went into the hall to work as a team to create a skeleton using the bones given to us.  There were some interesting skeletons.

Using a correct skeleton, we took turns to observe and change our skeleton.

Mrs Catterall then taught us the names of lots of our bones.

Week Beginning Monday 23rd October 2017, by Miss Adamson

Date: 21st Oct 2017 @ 4:17pm

Hello all :)

I hope that you are enjoying your weekends!

This week is called 'Check-Up Week'. We will all be doing assessments in order to help me to plan the next steps for the children as effectively as possible. This is how the week should look:

Maths

All of the children will do a small arithmetic and reasoning assessment.

Phonics

We will carry on with our daily phonics lessons. Miss Adamson's group will be learning ie (a colourful tie), ue (blue glue), aw (yawn at dawn) and ew (chew the stew). Mrs Thomson's group will be learning oi (spoil the boy), ear (hear with your ear) and air (that's not fair). All the children will also do a short phonics check with Miss Adamson.

Reading

We will have guided reading as usual on Wednesday. In addition, children will do a short reading assessment with Miss Adamson or Mrs Thomson.

Writing

We are doing some special pieces of writing as part of a whole school theme called 'Journey Back in Time'. We will be reading the story of Old Bear and retelling it in our writing.

History

In keeping with Journey Back in Time and Old Bear, we will be learning about toys from the past. We will compare them with toys in the present and create our own timeline.

Homework

This week there will be no homework in the children's purple books. Instead, children will receive their Holiday Passports. During every school holiday (Y1-Y6), children fill in their holiday passport with details of what they have done over the break. We love reading what you have done and it makes for lovely memories to look back on when your child gets to Year 6. Holiday Passports are kept inside the red book bag.

I look forward to seeing you all on Monday!

Miss Adamson :)

P.S. If you have any outstanding toast money to be paid for this past half-term (£7.80). Please send it to school with your child this week.

We identified and sorted 3D shapes. Then we used 3D shapes to make castles because what could be more fun than building castles!? Wonderful teamwork!

Friday mindfulness , by Mr Pearson

Date: 20th Oct 2017 @ 11:22am

Today in Mindfulness session we have learnt to consider and focus on our breath.

we have also learnt to finger breath,

http://blissfulkids.com/mindfulness-for-children-take-five-exercise/

Next we looked at snow dome to explain how our mind can be at times all fizzzy and dizzy and how we can use mindfulness techniques our minds can then settle down

Finally, we looked at weeble wobbles to compare how sometimes in life we may have little things that might make us wobble and we bounce back, then when a big wobble in life might affect us, however like the weeble wobble we will bounce back.

Another good website to look at.
