The week ahead, by Miss Leigh

We have a busy week ahead.
Maths- formal methods for multiplication and disivion. Check you can double and half decimals, multiply and device a decimal by 10, 100 and 1000 mentally.
English. We continue with Swiss family Robinson. We will be looking at language use, sentence structure and vocabulary. Planning and writing a missing chapter.
GPS. Auxiliary verbs. Remember to go over se and ce words from last week and short vowel sounds.
French. Greetings
ICT/ RE. Making a presentation to explain the about the acts of Kirat Karne, Vand Chakna and Nam Japna
Science. The theory of evolution
Church on Tuesday.
PE. beyond sport- dance
It is really important that if you've found something hard in class this week or last week that you spend 10 minutes each night having another go at it. This will make it much easier the next time we come to use that knowledge.

It's going to be a busy week this week.
Spelling - words with the spelling patterns. E.g. ei (vein), eigh (eight), aigh (straight), ey (they).
Reading - literal questions, finding the evidence in the text.
English - biographies.
Maths - interpreting and drawing graphs, applying addition and subtraction skills.
Science - outside shadows, weather dependent.
P.E. swimming on Thursday and cricket on Friday
R.E. - exploring the messages within the Buddhist storyof the 'Buddha and the Injured Swan'.
Jigsaw - developing a learning charter.
On Tuesday afternoon we have our harvest service in church. Thank you to those who have already brought in donations.
On Friday we will be making our Enterprise food ready to sell at the end of the day after school. More details to follow.
Projects need to be in school on Friday as well please.

Today we completed our folk tales. We sat with a partner and shared our stories, supporting each other to check and edit our work. There was a lovely working atmosphere in class today well done Bongos.
Shadows, by Mrs Catterall

We still haven't managed to get the sunshine for our work on shadows outside, however this hasn't stopped us exploring them in the classroom.
How can I use 1 object but make my shadow larger and smaller?
We used screens and torches to create shadows and see how we could change their size. Our conclusion, the closer the object the light source the bigger the shadow.

This week the focus story is blue balloon by Mick Inkpen. We will think about where we would like to go on our balloon. We started PE last week and we will continue with games and simple skills this week. In maths we will continue to count and add and look at shapes.
its the harvest festival in church this week and as always the reception sit at the front, watch out for us singing and joining in!

Hello all,
i I hope that you are enjoying the weekend. Just a quick thought that projects are due on Friday. The theme is superheroes. Information was sent in a parent mail but I know some parents haven't had all their parent mails or could have missed it as there is always lots to read! If you would like any help or have questions, please let me know. It can be as big/small as you wish! I am out of class on Monday but will be on the walking bus and available to speak to on Tuesday. There is no specific expectation or criteria.

This week in Year 5 we have been writing our 📝✏️LEGENDS✏️📝. We have been VERY busy but most of have finished and a handful are just finishing off. Today we have done some cricket 🏏. We did some NON-STOP cricket just to get us back in the spirit of P.E. We are designing our T-Shirts in PSHE (Jigsaw TM)

This afternoon the Giraffes have started their Jigsaw session with a teamwork engineering challenge. Using only art straws and newspaper the children have been challenged to build the tallest free standing structure they can.

The Penguins have enjoyed finding out more about Hindus,learning about the puja tray and the objects on it. In Maths they made some Lego towers and had to estimate the length and then measure.We have also worked hard on practising our autumn poem for Harvest.

Maths homework this week is much easier - don't fret! I know a lot of people struggled with it last week, we will be working our way through them over the term and refining our skills with word problems in particular. Please do not stress about homework that you find tricky - if it is way too hard, leave it and let me know on the Monday and I'll find you something that will challenge you. I'll never be mad at you for not understanding something! Promise! Just try your best and if it is too easy - have a go at the spicy challenge!
This week the spicy challenge document has a few sheets to choose from - they are all pretty much the same level, so just pick one. (PLEASE DON'T DO ALL OF THEM - GO OUTSIDE AND PLAY!!!)

During their Jigsaw lessons the Tigers have started to design T shirts to show the rewards of good learning . The designs support the work they have been doing on having the right to learn and their responsibilities to each other as learners .

Our Jigsaw lesson today was all about team work. In groups we had 3 carrots, a chopping board, knife, cocktail sticks and string. The challenge was to create a car. Listening to everyone's ideas and taking turns was the focus of the lesson. It was great fun.

Today we practised measuring in cm and mm. We went outside to find 2 leaves, one longer and one shorter than 10cm. We then took a closer look and measured them to the nearest mm.

Today we sketched a tree in the playground. Its leaves have turned yellow and orange. We will continue to observe how this tree changes throughout the seasons.

This afternoon we learnt how to say hello, my name is... and goodbye in French. We then used this to read the poem 'Two little dickie birds'. We made puppets and then filmed ourselves reading it out aloud.

Maths focus subtraction column method up to thousands and then to 2decimal places.
we will be moving on to solving problems by Friday.
English focus writing in paragraphs, using James and the Giant Peach as a theme for our writing
GPS Spelling words we are focusing on have been given to the children. Further work on inverted commas for speech and adverts for speech will be covered.
