Our First Term at Nursery: Growing, Learning and Settling In
The first term at Nursery has been full of excitement, new experiences and wonderful moments of growth. As the children have settled into their new environment, we’ve seen their confidence flourish and their independence shine through in so many ways.

Building Our Daily Routines
Establishing consistent routines has helped the children feel secure and ready for learning each day. They’ve been practising:
• Self‑registration — finding their name and checking themselves in each morning
• Putting coats on — using the “flip trick”
• Carpet time — listening, sharing ideas and joining in group discussions
• Buttering their own toast — developing fine motor skills and confidence during snack time
• Tidy‑up time — working together to care for our environment
• Going into the hall for dinner — practising lining up, carrying trays and building independence at mealtimes
These small daily achievements are helping children feel capable, proud and part of the Nursery community.

Learning All About Our Bodies & Our Emotions.
This half term we’ve been exploring our bodies and bones, discovering what helps us move, stretch and dance. The children loved:
• The Skeleton Dance, learning the names of different bones
• Exploring facial expressions, talking about feelings and recognising emotions
• Moving their bodies in different ways — bending, twisting, jumping and balancing
The children have been exploring their emotions through the wonderful story The Colour Monster. The book helped us to identify and talk about different feelings, linking each emotion to a different colour.

Adventures Beyond the Classroom
We’ve enjoyed several park trips, giving children the chance to run, climb, explore nature and build physical confidence. Outdoor learning has been a highlight, with lots of opportunities for teamwork and imaginative play.

Creative Moments
Painting has been a big favourite this month. Children have experimented with colours, brushes and textures, expressing themselves freely and proudly sharing their artwork with friends.

Making Friendships
One of the most heart‑warming parts of the first term has been watching friendships blossom. Children are learning to:
• Share and take turns
• Use kind words
• Work together
• Support each other during play
These early social skills lay the foundation for a happy and successful year ahead.

Exploring Halloween
The children have been enjoying a variety of fun Halloween activities in nursery this week. The children have been learning about size by exploring small, medium and large pumpkins. They enjoyed comparing the pumpkins, talking about their differences, and ordering them from smallest to largest.
Through this hands-on activity, the children developed their early mathematical skills, including comparing, sorting, and using size-related vocabulary. It was wonderful to see the children actively exploring, making observations, and learning through play while celebrating the autumn season. 🎃🍂😊
