Promoting British Values and Pupil Voice

British Values are at the heart of all we do at Longton. Through our use of Jigsaw the children are discussing, exploring, learning about and reflecting on British Values. This is built into the curriculum.

Each week in school we have a Picture News assembly.  These assemblies focus on events which have been in the news.  A provoking question is discussed and explored during the assembly, it helps challenge ideas, pre-conceptions and inform.  Each assembly will be linked to one of the British Values.  An example can be found below.

We also use 'Votes for schools' resources within our classes. These lessons aim to give the children a better understanding of current affairs and as well as providing opportunities for them to make informed decisions and vote.
