Headteacher Welcome
Headteacher's Welcome
I have always strongly believed that having the opportunity to educate other people's children is a rare privilege. At Longton Primary School we take this responsibility extremely seriously. We care about the individual and we pride ourselves in the warmth of a community in which young people feel happy and valued. We seek to create an environment of high expectations in which all our pupils are encouraged to believe in themselves, to be inquisitive, to be resilient and to show ambition both within and beyond the classroom.
Our school is driven by its values which go beyond measurable results. Achievement in the classroom is crucial, though our priority is not examination grades but the stimulation of independent enquiry and intellectual curiosity. In each individual we seek to encourage leadership, and to nurture boys and girls to become confident, caring and contributing citizens in the modern world. By affording our pupils the opportunity to explore their inner selves - so that they derive a sense of personal worth, we actively promote personal integrity, tolerance, understanding and independence of thought. We encourage young people to work with and learn from each other, as well as to show moral courage to stand up for what they believe in. The breadth of a Longton Primary education supports our pupils in challenging themselves and develops their abilities to communicate with others. We believe these values remain with them for life.
We strongly advocate that the formative years of your child's education are extremely important. Our firm belief being that the experience gained at this stage is fundamental in helping to shape and determine their views, attitudes, values and general outlook. In an ever changing world where traditional values are being constantly challenged and eroded, we believe that an education rooted in firm traditional principles mixed with a creative flare is as relevant now as it ever has been. We place emphasis on good manners, courtesy and considerate behaviour, thus fostering respect for peers and adults alike. We believe in allowing children to be children. We believe that through such a framework we can achieve an atmosphere in which each child will flourish.
Longton Primary School has high expectations of the children in terms of academic achievement. High quality and committed staff ensure that children receive close attention. We believe that children leave Longton Primary ready to continue their education having reached their absolute full potential. The school provides children a rounded and broad education in which each child discovers their talents and fulfils their potential. We introduce children to a wide range of opportunities. In particular, there is a strong emphasis on traditional basic skills, music, drama and outdoor pursuits. Most important, though, is that our pupils are happy and leave us as well-rounded individuals, ready to play their part as successful learners, confident individuals, effective contributors and responsible citizens in the modern, dynamic world. With them as they move on to senior schools they take plenty of friends and the key attributes in which we believe: tolerance, kindness, curiosity, independence, enthusiasm and happiness.
We aim to be one of the country's leading state community primary schools. We value the strong bond we forge with our parents thus ensuring we provide a first class transformative experience for all pupils. I am therefore determined that our community will remain self-aware, outward-looking, open-minded and innovative in its approach to all things as we strive to fulfil the responsibility that we have been given. A visit to Longton Primary will reveal the school's happy, purposeful and inspired atmosphere. I would be delighted to welcome you and introduce you to our best ambassadors - our pupils - who will tell you for themselves about their lives at Longton Primary School.
