Our curriculum is built around our core values:

What We Want for Every Child

At Longton Primary, we aim to develop both the heart and mind of every child. Our curriculum ensures:

  • Secure teaching of knowledge, skills, and vocabulary

How We Teach

We deliver the National Curriculum through high-quality, sequenced schemes:

  • Kapow for foundation subjects

  • White Rose for Maths

  • EdShed for English and spelling

  • SCARF for PSHE/RSHE

Children learn through:

  • Investigation, exploration, and problem solving

  • Discussion, reasoning, and oracy

  • Practical tasks and outdoor learning

  • Research, collaboration, and independent work

  • Trips, workshops, and real-life contexts

Vocabulary is taught explicitly:

  • Five key words per topic

  • Knowledge organisers

  • Oracy and discussion

  • Home involvement in learning

  • Reading is at the heart of our curriculum, with daily practice, guided sessions, and structured progression.
