The Bongos have had a very busy week.
They have done some amazing work in maths learning how to use arrays to do multiplication calculations. They have created some wonderful city scales where the buildings have arrays for windows.
In writing this week the class have written fantastic traditional stories building on the work we have done on Hansel and Gretel and Baba Yaga.
Thank you to everyone for coming to parents evening it was great to share with you how well your little Bongos are doing.
Finding half of a set of objects, by Miss Adamson

On Friday we found half of a set of objects by sharing treasure between Pirate Jenny and Pirate Jack. We had to make sure that it was equal so that there wasn't a mutany. Some children also worked out how much treasure there was at the beginning, before it had been halved.

I'm sure you've all been hearing about the wonderful adventures of Lucy, Edmund, Susan and Peter. We've been reading the story and have begun to explore the mysterious world that is Narnia. What an interesting place it seems to be. Imagine living in a place where it's always winter and never Christmas!
The children have been working very hard looking at historical language and trying to use it. We've written diarys and letters. We've debated if Mr Tumnus can be trusted and if is his really a good Faun! We are glad that Lucy decided to go with him, although we know that going with strangers is not something we should ever do. We have found lots of evidence of the characters trusting each other and when their trust has been tested.
We've just met Mr and Mrs Beaver and have heard about Aslan. What will happen next?
Religious Fanoos and projects , by Mrs Pratten

This week in year four we have made lanterns called Fanoos. We learnt that a king used Fanoos to light the way in Egypt and are part of Ramadan celebrations.. Projects were AMAZING!!! We had loads of fun making projects and can't wait for next weeks fun!!!!

This afternoon the children showed great team work while baking chocolate chip biscuits. Each week they will be making and evaluating a different type of biscuit and then deciding which ones to make and sell at the Christmas play performances. I hope there are a few extra biscuits every week, I really enjoyed them today.

On Monday this week we had great fun exploring what we already know about our skeletons. There were some very interesting ideas. Throughout the afternoon we developed our understanding of where bones go and what shape they are and have begun to learn the scientific names for them. Over the next few weeks we will be comparing animal skeletons, looking at how our muscles work and then designing our owns skeletons for a specific task. Watch this space.

This week we have been focusing on friendships in school. We have read a story about being a 'bucket filler'. The story focuses on us making good choices and showing little acts of kindness towards others and how by doing this it also makes us feel happy. The children shared examples of their work in assembly on Thursday. It was also lovely to see lots of children get certificates in assembly today for being a good friend.

Have you filled a bucket today?, by Miss Adamson

We read a story called 'Have You Filled a Bucket Today?' That taught us that everyone carries an invisible bucket around with them. When it is full, we feel happy but when it is empty we feel sad. We can fill others people's buckets when we say or do kind things. When we fill other peoples's buckets it fills our own too. When we are unkind we can dip from people's buckets. Sometimes, when our own bucket is empty, we dip from others people's buckets to try to fill our own but it never works.
That was wordy! Google How Full Is Your Bucket? It is an idea to teach children empathy.
The children have written what they do to fill a bucket. We showed some of our ideas at assembly.
Meeting an author: Robin Stevens, by Mr Coxhead

Year 6 enjoyed an insightful presentation by author Robin Stevens on Thursday. Robin spoke about her life, her inspirations, her novels to date and how to be a great writer. The presentation was followed by a Q&A with Robin!
Her books are proving very popular amongst the class - it's great to see so many of our pupils reading them this week.

This Week In Year Four We Have Been Using The Friendship Box.Sophia Won , she had the most nominations, And Got Herself A Lotery Ticket. we Also Made These Things Called Chaterboxes.They Have Nice Words Inside That Make Us Feel Nice And Fuzzy. We wrote our own poppy poems and enjoyed dressing up

The day started learning about the history of Remembrance Day. The children then made some amazing posters using Remembrance themed vocabulary to show their understanding of the day . After play we went into the hall where Mr Turner from the Royal British Legion spoke to the school about life as a young boy in Bamber Bridge during the Second World War. He also spoke about the history of the poppy.
back in class the children used their senses to describe peace. This afternoon they are busy designing medals and choosing who and why to give them to.

We have spent a lot of time looking at spellings and listening to sounds so today we decided to feel spellings.This probably sounds very strange but we really did feel words today.
We did this by imagining that we were Harry Potter or Hermione Granger and that our rulers were magic wands that could write words in the air in beautiful joined up cursive writing. Great fun was had by all writing words from our spelling lists in the air.

Wow we made it to the end of a busy but fantastic week we have read stories, made maths magic spells, tasted soup, painted pictures, had a disco and made a Cookie Monster pumpkin. We are all tired out but looking forward to a wonderful week off.

We used our knowledge on electricity to create an amazing Halloween decoration to go up on the apparatus. We did them over five days. We used our gymnastic skills to balance and travel over or under the equipment.It has been a fun week!

Year 6 Class Assembly, by Mr Coxhead

Year 6 finished the first half-term on a high this morning with a fantastic class assembly performance! They feel extremely proud of themselves after the performance and so they should!
A few snapshots can be seen below.
We've also added the video clip from the opening segment of the assembly. The curtains opened to reveal an empty stage with a live broadcast projected on to the screen from our pretend class 'CCTV cameras' - see video. When the class arrived on the stage, they realised they had forgotten the script. Connor volunteered to go back and collect it (which is why he appears again at the end of the video clip).
We wish everyone a happy and safe half-term! See you all in early November to continue the great start to our year.
Bongos Homework, by Mrs Fletcher

The Bongos wil be bringing their red holiday passports home tomorrow (Friday) to be added to over the break. Five children didn't return their passports at the end of the summer holidays so please can they remember to hand them in when we come back in November.
Also projects are due in on Monday 14th November. Details are on the bottom of page 2 of the curriculum outline which was sent home in September and which can be found on our blog.
