Arts week ~ Day 1, by Mrs Pratten

Date: 20th May 2019 @ 6:11pm

Today we have been very busy practicing our painting skills.

First we painted shapes very carefully and then we learnt about primary colours and the colour wheel. We had to mix our own colours from red, yellow and blue.

Next we had a go at making shades by adding white or black, we then used our new found skills to paint a background all ready to add some more detail later in the week in the style of Paul and John Nash. ( WW1artists)

We amazed  our teachers with our fantastic painting skills🙂

Looking forward to the beach tomorrow- don’t forget your bucket and spade!!!

Arts week - Monday , by Miss Reynolds

Date: 20th May 2019 @ 3:45pm

What a start to arts week! First of all, we were spoilt by having Hilary Robinson (author of a Christmas Truce and other WW1 stories) come to school and kick off our week of creativity. School parliament were lucky enough to have lunch with her and she even ran a Writers workshop for some children - it was great. Today in year 5, we have had a carousel of activities, including : charcoal sketching, colour printing, oil pastel drawing and creating poppy templates for our whole school beach art project tomorrow!

Don't forget that tomorrow we’re at Ainsdale all day. Please wear school uniform tops, a pair of your own shorts, cap and trainers. You can also bring buckets and spades to play with! Don’t forget sunscreen either!

Watercolour Artists art work , by Mrs Fletcher

Date: 20th May 2019 @ 12:18pm

Arts Week 2019 started with an assembly by a very special guest , the author Hilary Robinson. She spoke about how she was inspired by her Great Uncle and her Grandfather to write stories based on World War One .

Back in class we looked at one of Hilary’s books Where the Poppies Now Grow. We enjoyed the story very much . We then looked in detail at the illustrations done by Martin Impey. In our sketch books we sketched out our ideas in his style. Next followed a lesson I’m how to use watercolour paints. Currently the class are painting their own poppy themed landscapes, thinking about brush strokes, colour mixing and perspective. I think we may have some master pieces on our hands

Hand washing!, by Mrs Pratten

Date: 14th May 2019 @ 6:48pm

Today we had a visit from Tanya who showed us how to wash our hands properly and why it is so important.

We learnt that you should keep washing your hands while you sing Happy Birthday through twice and then you have washed them for long enough.

We tested this out on Eve and Bobby, it was Eves birthday today so we sang to her.

They put their hands in a special machine that showed all the germs, then went to wash their hands.Eve washed hers better than Bobby with nearly no germs left, great hand washing Eve🙂

In science we continued  our materials investigations, helping ted choose a material to make a new umbrella.

We had make a prediction and then test different materials to see how well they worked. To make it fair we used a pipette ,so that the same amount of water was used each time. We were brilliant scientists and most of us were right in our predictions, the flower fabric was the best. ( Mrs Prattens old rain coat!)
