Gymnastic and dance fun - Year 2, by Mrs Pratten

Year 2 enjoyed a morning at Priory yesterday, taking part in a gymnastic and dance festival along with lots of other schools. They thoroughly enjoyed it and received a special certificate -The spirit of the games - very well done!

We have begun our work on fossils this week. We have listened to the story of Mary Anning and had a go at making an ammonite out of clay. We are also developing our drawing skills.

Today the lelphants enjoyed a visit to the library where we had a pop up story session. We bought some books back to school to help us with our DT project which is to design a moving picture. Today we experimented with making a slider to move our pictures along. They looked great!

Please keep learning your times tables at home. There are sheets on the maths section of our class page you can print out. The children like playing hit the button games on the computer as well.
This week we played lots of times Table loop games. Lots of working together as a pair or in groups.

Which Rock is the hardest? What happens when I put water on the rock? What does a rock look like under a microscope? If I put vinegar on a rock what will happen?

Today we looked at challenges and decided that whilst it might hurt our brain to do new things we must never give up. Super Sally challenged us all to stand on one leg for 1 minute.....we had to sort beads from a mixed up dish with a blind fold on and we listened to the story of Gerald the giraffe. We all got our minions to the top today and so we all got a little cake to eat, what a fantastic, fun Friday X X

Another busy week has gone by with lots of learning. Mrs Cowburn and I are really pleased with how hard everyone is working. In maths we’ve had lots of fun playing clock games, this afternoon we have been creative in designing a page on Hindu Gods. Next week, we will make our musical instrument. We have designed a prototype and thought about the materials we might use based on our science learning. If you have any cardboard, tubs etc please bring in next week.

Today the Elephants enjoyed their Jigsaw challenge which was to work with a partner, set a goal and design a welly together. They were encouraged to take turns, listen to each other and be a great team together.....and they did! They were all fantastic not one argument and some amazing wellies designed. Well done super star Elephants😜

The Bongos have learnt about engineering today, what an engineer does and different types of engineering. They have then become engineers working to design and make Roman aqueducts using plastic cups and straws.

This week in year 6 we have been learning about a Aung San Suu Kyi. Her father fought for Burma’s independence (now known as Myanmar 🇲🇲) and she is one of the most famous people in Myanmar. She is a politician. In maths we have been going over co-ordinates and doing some more revision work preparing for SATS -we hope we do well! In English we have been doing some learning on journalism and newspaper reports / articles we have re-read the book 📖 Voices In The Park which looks at one story from different points of view. We also read a complaint about some of the events that happened in the Park where 2 children we’re noisily playing in the playground.

Today we enjoyed learning about the United Kingdom and the 4 countries that make it up. We looked in the atlas’s to find out about the world and to help us make our Jigsaw country pieces to put together to make the UK. It was tricky to get them in the right place and to make sure that the countries were all the right size compared to each other ...but we did it!!

This week we are finding out about Woody and Jess. We are having a go at wood whittling, writing wanted posters and much more.....it's also the Chinese New Year.

We will be using a variety of resources from the Think U Know website.
This will include animated video clips, activity sheets, interactive activities and discussions.

A few pictures of our projects. Mrs Cowburn and I have been really impressed with your creative designs and look forward to seeing more designing next week when we design our musical instruments. I wonder if all our science work will help us when we think what materials to use. On that note, next week, if you have any empty boxes or containers, please do bring them into school as we might use them as part of the instrument’s structure.

The children have really been enjoying our story this week There’s a lion in my cornflakes and it was voted our favourite story of the the 3 we have read so far. This week we written our own versions with free sea creatures instead and alll sort of things going wrong! The children had fun creating their own cereal boxes today , writing what sea creature was free, the name of the cereal and trying to use lots of adjectives. They look great! They will be coming home next week with a copy of the story in it.
A big thank you to Bobbys mum who has recycled old sweat shirts and PE tops to make a lovely blanket for us in our reading area. We love it!

We have been learning about Electricity and we found a solar panel in the box. We decided to take advantage of the winter sun and see if we could get it working. In direct sunlight we got a few flickers of light, but nothing sustained.
