This afternoon we have enjoyed our well deserved class compliment. We have snuggled under blankets and watched a film. We had a choice of 4 films and voted in secret and posted our vote into the ballot box. We discussed the idea of democracy as it’s Parliament Week.

We are really enjoying this story. We are using a light panel to draw pictures and write words cursive style. We are playing in the Gruffalo woods on the tough tray and we love the Gruffalo Cafe - yummy roasted fix and scrambled snake.

This week in Maths we are learning about repeating patterns.Today we had to make a pattern for our friend to copy and say what the rule was.We had fun!
As part of anti bullying week we talked about using kind words and wrote kind words about our friends. We put them in the kind jar and are reading a few everyday. Today Noah and Marley had kind words said about them.
We also had a vote as part of our parliament week learning , yesterday we learnt about the Houses of Parliament and an interesting fact about Big Ben. Ask your child if they can remember!

The elephants have had a busy week of learning. Decorating pebbles and taking them to the church , which looked beautiful inside. Designing and making a glider. Well done to Sienna and Pippa who won the design competition and well done to Olive who flew hers the furthest in Year 1. We all added a handprint to make a beautiful poppy wreath.

Today we designed and decorated our gliders, we are going to test fly them tomorrow, they look great. Some lovely ideas.
We have also started to make our pebbles ready to put in the village on Friday, the elephants keep on surprising me with their fabulous and thoughtful ideas. well done!

We have started to think about WW1 and Remembrance Day. We are making a whole class canvas and using lots of skills, painting, sewing, sticking and cutting. It is nearly finished, take a look at what we have done so far.

Today we found out all about what we would have to do to be a new army recruit.
We had to see if we met the criteria of height - 160cm and chest size - 82cm.
We had great fun practising our measure skills before using subtraction to work out the differences in length.

Well done to Jacob and some elephants who enjoyed running round the track this morning.

Today we enjoyed finding out about Guy Fawkes and the gun powder plot, we learnt about the plan and sequenced pictures to show the events.
We discussed why we have fireworks and best of all enjoyed making our own sparklers. They were yummy!

This week was are second week back from the half term holidays. Last week and this week we have been learing about poetry and we have learnt Flanders fields poem , which is about remeberence day and world war one. McCrae was the poet to Flanders fields and he achually wrote it during the ww1 that means he must of been soldier and he must of fought in the war. In english homework we had to copy a really good poem that we liked and that we enjoyed reading. The rest of the week we are going to be learning about rememberance and going to be painting are pebbles .

Firework Poster WINNER, by Mrs Catterall

We recieved some very exciting news on Friday in assembly.
Mrs Brown had a envelope containing tickets for Worden Park Bonfire this Monday, they had been dropped off by Lancashire Fire and Rescue service.
The posters we had entered into the competition had been judged against those from all other local schools and we are pleased to announce that Bronwen was a successful winner. We are very proud of her, she produced an amazing entry.

This week we will be devoting our lessons to the theme of WW1.
Monday
What were the criteria for joining up? Developing our measuring skills.
What animals were involved in the war? What roles did they play? We will read the story 'Flo and the Somme' as well as continuing our class book the Farm Boy.
In the afternoon we will continue to research animals and begin our painting of pebbles.= aswell as sartin to think about our class assembly which will be on Thursday.
Tuesday
Our focus will be on Nurses and the injured soldiers. We will read the story Peace Lily and think about the role of nurses, inparticular Edith Cavell, the types of injuries sustained and how they might be treated. We will try out skills in bandaging each other and making a stretcher.
Wednesday
Wednesday is Hug a Bear day. The children have been told they can bring in a small bear to school. We will explore how bears are linked to World War 1 and will develop our sewing skills by making a felt bear.
We will also be watching a theatre Production in the hall 'Your Country needs you'.
Thursday
We will start the day with our class assembly. Our World War 1 learning will continue by focusing on the air attacks and different types of aircraft. We will work in groups to design and make our own planes ready to test out with other classes on Friday. we will be swimming as normal.
Friday
Non Uniform Day - Come dressed as a doctor, nurse, soldier, evacuee etc. or in red and black.
Remembrance, Mr Turner assembly. we will focus our leanring on the end of the war, the Treaty of versailles and write Peace poems.
We will test out our planes. We will also be going to the park area at the end of School Lane to display our painted pebbles.
It's going to be a busy week.

Today we started our WW1 focused week a bit early. We found out about the countries involved and developed our geography skills looking at flags and maps to locate the countries.
This afternoon we made some WW1 stain glass windows.
