Year 6: The Meerkats: Blog items
Macmillan coffee morning and book read, by Mrs Catterall
Date: 1st Oct 2019 @ 5:39pm
What an amazing morning. We were completely blown away by the number of visitors this morning. Thank you to everyone who came along to support this event, there was plenty of cake for everyone. The children enjoyed reading with their parents/grandparents, reading with the younger children or sat on a bean bag, taking off their shoes and sharing a book with their friends. Thankyou also to the parents who helped our amazing charity ambassadors and heads team.
We had lots of amazing cakes for our moon/space themed competition. There are some very talented bakers out there. The charity ambassadors had some difficult decisions to make when choosing the winner from each class. The winners were informed in assembly today and prizes given out. All children who took part will receive a special certificate later this week.
We will let you know the total amount once it has been totalled up.

Cheese on toast, by Mrs Catterall
Date: 30th Sep 2019 @ 6:33pm
Well, I never realised until today how many different ways you could make cheese on toast.
We started the lesson by telling each other how to make cheese on toast, it was a revelation, from cheese on bread and in a toaster to putting it in a microwave and using cheese spread, I have learnt a lot todayπ
We then went on to look at a variety of instructions for making cheese on toast and discussed the positive and negatives for each one.

Baking dog biscuits, by Mrs Catterall
Date: 24th Sep 2019 @ 6:02pm
As an introduction to our new English unit on instructions and as part of our topic work we had a go at making dog biscuits. They contained wholemeal flour which is important as dogs need to eat food which contains carbohydrates. The recipe we used and some biscuits will be making their way home to dog owner families tomorrow. There will be more human food coming your way over the next couple of weeks.

English - on Monday the children will be writing their own version of the story The old woman in the vinegar bottle. They have some super ideas for where their character might want to live. I can’t wait to read them this week. Our new unit will be about instructions and to tie in with our scrumdiddlyumptious topic we will be focusing on recipes.
Topic - the children will continue their exploration of whether or not breakfast cereal contains iron and then look at the diets of animals. I don’t have any pets so if you have a pet at home maybe your child can talk to us about what you feed it and why.
