In this week’s English lessons again we carried on with our Aladdin story, writing a description of the cave and the characters.

This week’s weekly spellings this week are ‘early, Earth, eight, enough, exercise, experience, experiment, extreme’

In our grammar we did things that were linked to our English like onomatopoeia, similes and fronted adverbials.

In our maths lessons this week we played a game of battle ships which linked in with our maths topic of co-ordinates. Remember to keep learning your times tables.

In this week’s topic lesson, we got to design our own Roman bath house. If you wanted to you could put a statue of you wanted to.

In French, we learnt about hobbies that we would do every day.

In music we had a show off week were people could bring in an instrument or sing a solo or a duet.

Surviving the Stone Age, by Mrs Catterall

Date: 4th Feb 2020 @ 8:37pm

We have all had an amazing day today. We have attempted to light a cotton wool ball on fire using flint and steel. Some were more successful than others, one thing is for sure the Meerkats have determination, they never gave up and were determined to succeed.  Time was up and it got a bit windy but they want me to bring back the equipment so they can have another go.  Super proud of the positive attitude.πŸ™‚

We became hunter gathers, finding berries and nuts and recording whether they were safe to eat or not.

We built a shelter and made weapons. At the end of the day they had to try and catch a mammoth!

Lots of mud, fresh air and fun, now time for a bath and a good nights sleep.

Thanks for being amazing Meerkats.

Awesome tribe, by Mrs Brown

Our year 6 children have their heads down and are working exceptionally hard.  They are also proving to be amazing role models.  Thank you.

If you would like to start your own lunch time club please think about what the cub would be, who would attend, where and when it would take place and how would people know to attend.  Then come and discuss your plans with Mrs Brown.  If you need any help ask Bronnie and Faith or Tilly and Paige regarding the clubs they already successfully run.

We have been really enjoying our book for this half term ‘Wolves in the Wall.’ Today the story took an unsuspecting turn, the wolves who had been portrayed as vicious were found eating jam and popcorn, dancing around and watching TV.  We had our own Wolf party to celebrate this turn of events and create our own party food vocabulary.

Harris Museum - Stone Age Trip., by Mrs Catterall

Date: 24th Jan 2020 @ 7:34pm

On Tuesday we had a fantastic day at the Harris museum. We started off by exploring the museum, especially the open art exhibition. We had a story in the library, Mr Majeka - I told the children that when I was little this was a TVProgramme.  We have watched the first episode back in class, we loved it.  I’m going to get some more of the stories for the classroom.

After lunch we attended a workshop all about the Stone Age, we were archaeologists digging for bones.  We found enough for a skeleton, but what animal was it. We read fact cards about different animals and decided it was an elk.  In the museum we saw a skeleton of an elk which was found near Poulton le Fylde.  We looked at some skulls believed to be of a Stone Age man and woman and other artefacts from the Stone Age and Bronze Age.

The children were amazing and asked lots of great questions.

Times table test website, by Mr Pearson

Date: 23rd Jan 2020 @ 11:49am

Dear Parents

As you will be aware in June this year all Year 4 children will be assessed on their times tables knowledge. This means that your child will need to be fluent in all of the times tables up to 12 x 12.

To prepare for the assessment our maths homework for the immediate future will be to learn a focus times table each week. The children will need to know the answers in a random order and not just be able to count on, as in the test the children only have 6 seconds to answer each question. We will assess the children on a Tuesday in the back of their maths homework book to enable you to keep a check on how your child is progressing. We would hope all children would score full marks, however any child who makes several errors will keep that times tables focus for the following week. Your support in this matter is invaluable and will benefit your child greatly as they progress through school.

This is the website we will be using to practice for the test in June
