Learning is fun, by Mrs Pratten

Date: 18th Oct 2022 @ 6:30pm

Yesterday we had an exciting Science lesson using our last sense of touch, we put our hands in jelly, cornflour goo and shaving foam, we came up with some great words to describe how it felt. The rest of the class were describing objects and guessing what they could be in a feely bag. We then swapped over.

In maths we have been learning about the part part whole model which helps us with our adding.

Dont forget our class compliment treat tomorrow, PJ’s and teddies allowed!

The year five buddies were also invited to come and watch and they have loved hearing more about the Lions. We still have two more days of presentations and we are looking forward to them!

We found a great way to cool down today in class and an ice pop definitely helped!

Tomorrow is looking like it will be a little cooler so we are hoping to go outside for some water play. Please send a carrier bag into school containing a towel, shorts, t shirt, old pumps and spare underwear. (The shorts, t shirt and pumps will be getting wet)

Children should wear school uniform and sun hat for school.

Eco Team / School Parliament., by Mrs Thomson

Date: 17th Jul 2022 @ 11:06am

Tomorrow afternoon the Lions will be visiting Mrs. Pratten and the year one classroom. In year one your child will have the opportunity to be on the school Eco Team and the School Parliament Team.

If your child would like to be considered for either opportunity they are welcome to bring a poster or picture to show in year one tomorrow and tell Mrs. Pratten and the children in class any good ideas they have and why they would like the role.

Eco Team - Each class will have their own Eco Warriors who represent their tribe and their tribes views on all things Eco-friendly. Our Eco team consists of two children from each year group. We strive to be eco conscious and environmentally aware at Longto Primary School.

Our School Parliament consists of two children from each year group. The two children that get the most votes are the School Parliament representatives for the whole year. Their role includes being a voice for their class and relaying concerns, wants, needs of the class to their teachers.

A warm Wednesday!, by Mrs Thomson

Thank you for sending in sun hats and sun cream.

After lunch tomorrow we are walking to St. Andrews church to meet Reverend Sam and have a good look around the church which links to our RE work.

The children have been learning about two different artists recently - Andy Warhol and Giuseppe Arcimboldo. The lions will be able to tell you all about our pop art project and how we used Andy Warhol’s ideas.

We have had a busy week with learning challenges. We have been writing, doing guided reading, learning about adding on two more ( using rabbit ears!) and practising counting in 2s. We have been sequencing a story, building bridges,  measuring them and testing them to see how many cans of beans they will hold. We also looked at the Great Wall of China.

However, the lions did find the time to have a little paddle and cool down!

An exciting week!, by Mrs Thomson

Date: 7th Jul 2022 @ 9:26pm

What an exciting week ...and we still have Fantastic Friday to come yet!

We are thoroughly enjoying our class story ‘Emma Jane’s aeroplane’ and we have all made a passport so we can visit China with her next week.

We have been doing lots of writing this week and working really hard on our cursive script. We all did amazingly well. Please let me know at the door if you would like a copy of the cursive script to work on over summer.

Please keep up the great work with reading. We are encouraging the children to read at home every day as well as recognising their sound cards.

The Lions have been looking at healthy and unhealthy foods this week. We continued with this theme by learning about Giuseppe Arcimboldo. The art work produced was fantastic. Please ask your children about this and please don’t be surprised if they speak in an Italian accent.

Good morning. The Lions have had another busy week. They have been showing us all their amazing maths skills, their wonderful writing and how creative they are this week.

We have been working on odd and even numbers, thinking about our seasons, finding out more information about pirates and doing our weekly tricky challenges.

The lions did so well in their first sports day. We are so proud of them!

If you haven’t yet done so, please could you send in a picture of your child with any member of your family for them to use in our lesson on Monday. Maybe a cousin, brother or sister.

Finally please remember to read each day and add a comment to the reading record book.

Thank you.

Have a lovely weekend.

The problem with the crown!, by Mrs Thomson

Date: 25th May 2022 @ 9:37pm

A wonderful day with lots of creative Lions. Please ask the children about our story. The Queen really wasn’t happy and had an awful headache! She had a big problem with her crown.

The children have embraced their challenges today which included hunting for tricky words, washing smelly socks and putting them on the washing line in pairs, playing a maths Crown Jewels game, creating a new crown for the Queen and doing some scissor work.

The lions worked in teams at the end of the day to tidy up! Our classroom is looking beautiful!

Lion Tribe Arts Week, by Mrs Thomson

The Lions have had a very busy start to the week. They have been learning about the Queen, the Platinum Jubilee,  the Crown Jewels, the Queens Guards and all about London.

Everyone enjoyed the baking activity and also creating their Queens Guard. We have had lots of castles made around the classroom.

The children were fantastic in PE. It was the last session of our transport theme. They have worked hard on throwing underarm and over arm, long distance jumping, hopping, running and doing a variety of rolls.

Well done Lions!

Last weeks Lions, by Mrs Thomson

I do apologise for not posting the blog last week! The lions had a busy week looking at maps and creating their own, using clay to fit Mr.Gumpy and his friends in, making jam sandwiches and packing up their class suitcase for their holiday! We had holiday camps and hotels set up around the classroom.

This week is art week and our theme is the Platinum Jubilee. The children will be busy trying out lots of new activities. They will also be bringing their beans and sunflower seeds home which are ready to plant in your garden.

Today the children have baked shortbread with Mrs.Regan, made a class castle with a moat and made one of the Queens Guards. We will be encouraging lots of scissor work this week to help the children with this skill.
