Year 3 - The Lions: Blog items

Little bits of info!, by Mrs Thomson

Date: 14th Nov 2021 @ 7:21pm

After a busy week creating boats and bridges we have used all of the junk modelling materials. If you have any cardboard cereal boxes (large or small) kitchen roll tubes, old gift wrap or wrapping paper tubes please send them in for us.

On Thursday homework will be put on google classrooms. Please use your password (which is at the back of the reading record book) to choose ONE piece of homework to complete. I have done a 'pick and mix' homework where you and your child can select one activity to complete each week. Please send a photo in by the following Tuesday. We will share some of these each week in class on a Tuesday.

The children are really enjoying sharing their 'Wow' moments. Thank you to everyone who has completed one and sent them in your childs book bag. I will attach them below so you can print some ready. You can send them in whenever you or your child has that very special proud moment.

Thank you

Mrs. Thomson

Thank you for sending reading books in book bags everyday, we really appreciate reading your comments and we were able to get most books changed yesterday.

The following few weeks will get very busy, please could we ask you to send any money for events or spending money in named envelopes.

We have had another 'Gingerbread' day! We started by doing the gingerbread man dance and then played a variation of tag rugby. I was the gingerbread man getting my revenge on the foxes! We had lots of fun! I'm sure the children will tell you all about this.

We have done number work and phonics as well as setting up a new area on the playground today. I have included a link below to a piece of music we listened to today. It was a big hit with the children!

Date: 8th Nov 2021 @ 8:45pm

Hello, before I start chatting about our day I would just like to say a huge thank you to our super star secret readers! The children are enjoying their story times and the lovely variety of stories. I have an ongoing list of books to buy for our class as the children have loved every single one!

I have a new list for next year so if you would like to join us, read with us again or swap to a day that suits you better please catch me so we can book a date and carry on this very special time.

The lions have had a busy day today. We have had dough disco, phonics, maths, RE, Assembly and topic time.

The lions are trying very hard to write their name on their work - a big thank you for your help with this.

We are enjoying being scientists and builders. The children are working in pairs and their team work skills have been fantastic!

More science tomorrow and hopefully a little time for baking!

Busy busy!!, by Mrs Thomson

Date: 3rd Nov 2021 @ 9:53pm

I hope the children had lots to tell you yesterday about the Snow White performance in school. It was wonderful and we sang and cheered and booed all afternoon!

Today started with squiggle and a wriggle. Our hearts where beating very fast after all that excercise! A great start to the day!

We then had our phonics session followed by maths. We did maths learning inside and then outside we had a number hunt.

We are enjoying using our gingerbread play dough that Miss Lynch made with the children. However it got rather sticky and messy today. The children thought it was great fun!

We have been learning about Diwali and we are busy creating a special light that we will bring home tomorrow.

Welcome back Lions!, by Mrs Thomson

Date: 1st Nov 2021 @ 8:02pm

It has been so lovely to see the Lions today and we have had a wonderful day together. I hope you all had a lovely break.

I am sorry but the children have had so much to tell us about their half term breaks that we didn’t get a moment to take any pictures! I will make sure we do tomorrow.

We have started a new outdoor project today with the children and our class story this week is The Gingerbread Man. Please please could you save boxes and cartons for our science junk modelling day next week where we will be making boats and testing them as an escape method of transport for our gingerbread man. Feel free to drop your materials off with us this week.

Please make sure reading books come to school each day in book bags. Books will be changed tomorrow. Also we would appreciate it if you could sign, date and add a short comment in the reading record book each time your child reads at home.

Thank you

A wet Wednesday!, by Mrs Thomson

Date: 20th Oct 2021 @ 9:24pm

I can’t begin to tell you just how many times the children have had puddle suits, coats or wellies on today! I lost count! The rain certainly didn’t stop the children from going in the tent to read, paint some pebbles or play in our Autumn Stew!

We had fun on our balance bikes, dancing to Dolly Parton in Squiggle and a wriggle, doing our number work, phonics and singing. We also had two birthday celebrations today!

We are very excited for our super secret reader tomorrow!

Our first super secret reader!, by Mrs Thomson

Date: 14th Oct 2021 @ 8:07pm

The lions have had a fantastic day today! We had our very first super secret reader! The children were delighted and they loved the story which Mr. Burdock chose for them. They loved all the different voices and we had some children trying to copy him in our story tent later. A huge thank you Mr. Burdock!

(We have lots of dates available if you would like to surprise the children. Please pop and see myself, Mrs Regan or Miss Lynch)

We have been ‘e’ spotting in phonics, finishing some special Jigsaw work on how we can all work together, working on our colours and scissor skills and we also squeezed in a little party dancing. We also had children sharing songs with the group. The lions are very brave and adventurous!

Thank you for the amazing projects. The children took turns in sharing their work and they were very proud. We can’t wait to display them all.

Wellbeing Wednesday, by Mrs Thomson

Date: 13th Oct 2021 @ 11:59pm

A great start to the day with balance bikes, throwing and catching, fairy footsteps and squiggle and wriggle. We received a special parcel with banners, party plates and cups in as we are having a birthday party in our home corner tomorrow. The children have embraced this by making birthday cards, cleaning the home corner and even clearing a space for dancing!

We joined KS1 in the hall for singing in the afternoon which was brilliant! The lions joined in with a new song and quickly got the hang of the actions.

Tomorrow we have our first super secret reader coming into class. We are very very excited! This will be wonderful for the children as they are showing us how much they love stories being read to them. They are getting excited that they will soon have reading books to bring home.

Projects are due in on Thursday. Thank you for all of the ones we have received so far, they are fantastic. We will ask the children to share their project with the class tomorrow afternoon and on Friday.

Tomorrow we are sending home some information which you will need for the parent / teacher meetings next week. Please see your email from school on how to book a slot.

You are also invited to a meeting in the school hall on Tuesday 19th October at 2.30pm. This will finish in time for picking your child up at home time. Mrs Fletcher and I will be explaining phonics, reading and homework which we will start sending out the week after half term. It will be interesting for you to hear when reading books are changed, how often the children are asked to read at home, how we are getting on with our phonics and how we will be sending out the homework. As we will be meeting in school, please can only one parent attend from each family. If you are unable to attend I will put information on the Lions webpage following the meeting.

Thank you for sending the Autumn bags back into class. We are using them in our play and our art and craft.

Thank you to the parents who have volunteered to be a secret reader. Ssshhh!! Please keep it secret! We would love to welcome you in our class if you would like to visit and read the class or a small group of children a favourite story. Please see Mrs. Thomson if you would like to arrange a secret story time.

Date: 6th Oct 2021 @ 8:16pm

A fun day with lots of learning, fresh air and exercise. We are doing very well with our phonics so a big thank you for your help and support at home. We keep adding new sounds to their folders so please carry on going over these at home.

Half of the class went outside this morning for a bike ride as well as some throwing and catching. The rest of the class danced away with ‘squiggle and wriggle’ in the hall. We had fantastic music on today, I hope the children came home singing! We ended the day with story massage.

Marvellous Monday., by Mrs Thomson

Date: 4th Oct 2021 @ 2:51pm

It was lovely to see all the lions back after the weekend. Everyone got to share their exciting weekend news in key worker time with their friends.

Little red riding hood has kept us busy again today! The big bag wolf kept on popping up in class and we also did some hot seating. We have been working hard on our repeating patterns in maths - a big thank you for the Autumn bags which came in today. We are using the materials already!

You may have seen on the school calendar that school projects can be brought into school on the 14th October. We would love your child to bring in a piece of art, a poster, a model or something they have made with your help. This can link to what we have been doing in school, a hobby or something fun you have enjoyed in your family. The projects will be displayed in school and the children will get to share them in class with us all.

A wet and wild Wednesday., by Mrs Thomson

Date: 29th Sep 2021 @ 8:49pm

Thank you so much for working so hard on the wonderful scarecrows! The lions loved sharing them and we love how creative everyone has been.

We started the day with squiggle and wriggle and we danced away to Mamma Mia. We definitely recommend that it will wake you up and make you smile if you have a go at home. (For this we need old rolls of wallpaper so please send any old or spare rolls in that you have finished with. Thank you)

Unfortunately we haven’t had any volunteers for our Thursday secret readers yet. It will be lovely to welcome you or a family member into our classroom for half an hour. Story time is a lovely special time in the classroom and it will benefit our early readers to hear a variety of stories read by different adults.

Welcome to our buddies!, by Mrs Thomson

Date: 28th Sep 2021 @ 9:49pm

Today the lions got to meet their year five buddies! It was a very exciting morning! The children shared books together and got to chat to their new friend. Some lions ventured off around school to see the year five classroom. Only two sleeps until they can walk to church holding hands with their buddy!

Take a peep at our forest with Grandma's cottage. Great teamwork - Teamwork Tuesday! We will be making the characters tomorrow.

A soggy start!, by Mrs Thomson

Well the rain did not stop the lions having fun and being amazing explorers this morning! Wellies and puddle suits on and off we went! We used our amazing senses to explore and we have made a fantastic start at creating Grannies forest in our classroom. We had our hot chocolate back at school as we dried off.

A lovely day to look forward to tomorrow! PE in the morning followed by a special time meeting our year five buddies! Very exciting!

23rd September, by Mrs Thomson

Date: 23rd Sep 2021 @ 9:02pm

Good evening! Some lovely photos to see and also a little more information.

Autumn walk - on Monday we are going to walk to ‘The Grove’ which is at the bottom of School Lane. We will walk on the path through the trees and go onto the main field looking for signs of autumn and observing the seasonal changes. We are hoping to collect some conkers, leaves and acorns to bring back to the classroom as we make the forest for Grandmas cottage (Little red riding hood). We will be using our senses by listening to sounds in the trees, observing changes and colours, tasting and smelling our hot chocolate and touching the nature we find. The weather forecast does look fine so far but please send in a coat on Monday. We have wellies and puddle suits in class if they are needed but it doesn’t look like we will need the woolly hats or gloves just yet.

Secret readers - From Monday I will put a calendar up on our class window. If you would like to put your name down against a date to become a surprise reader I would be very grateful. Don’t forget if you are unable to help you could always ask Grandma or Grandad as they would be very welcome. We can provide you with a class favourite book to read or if you prefer you can bring one of your own family favourites in.

Thank you, Mrs. Thomson

Wow Cards!, by Mrs Thomson

Date: 22nd Sep 2021 @ 10:03pm

If your child does something out of school that makes you feel very proud, they surprise you or you would just like to share a special moment with us please print off a wow card, fill it in and send it into school in your child’s book bag. We will share this ‘Wow Moment’ in class and celebrate your child’s special moment with them. (Wow moments can be big or small but will always be special. This is a lovely way to capture those special times and share them with us).

Wonderful Wednesday, by Mrs Thomson

Date: 22nd Sep 2021 @ 9:53pm

I hope everyone has received our Autumn letter today. More information about the super secret readers should follow soon. If you have any questions about anything on the letter please feel free to ask us. I will put the ‘Wow’ cards on the blog so you can print them off whenever you need them and send them back to school whenever you would like to share a special moment with us.

The children enjoyed story massage trains this morning. I hope they enjoy sharing the ‘humpty dumpty’ and ‘twinkle twinkle’ massages with you.

Teamwork Tuesday, by Mrs Thomson

Date: 21st Sep 2021 @ 10:54pm

We started our day with PE in the hall. We enjoyed our new theme which is ‘Elmer the Elephant’. We made lots of wide and thin shapes and travelled in different directions altering the size of our steps. We used some apparatus which everyone loved!

We were introduced to Jigsaw Jenie who is our very special jigsaw piece in the reception classroom. Today he used a chime to help us feel calm. He will join our lessons in personal, social and emotional development each week.

The lions became ‘super spotters’ for the afternoon. We didn’t realise we had so many words on the walls showing our sound ‘ssss’. We had a classroom and outdoor  hunt looking for things that start with the ‘sssss’ sound.

Week three already! 20.09.2021, by Mrs Thomson
