The Week Ahead - Arts Week!, by Miss Adamson

This week is our whole school Arts Week. Our usual timetable is suspended while we have one whole week of art! This is what we will be doing:

Monday

We have a visit from Ash Dickinson (poet) for an assembly then workshop.

We are making our sketchbooks.

We have a dance session with Amanda Rogers.

We are beginning work on our Monet project.

Tuesday

We have a visit from Jac Balmer (artist) who will be teaching us about Rousseau and help us create a piece of work based on his artwork.

We will complete our Monet project.

Wednesday 

This is our changeover day. We will be in a mixed class of Year Ones, Twos and Threes. We will do French based arts activities with Mrs Catterall, Mrs Fletcher and Miss Adamson.

Thursday 

We are learning about Charles Rennie Mackintosh and beginning our Mackintosh project.

We will be visited by two French teachers for a special assembly about French language and culture.

Friday 

We will complete our Mackintosh project.

We will have a visit from Mrs Bradley to do some artwork with glass.

We will make some fairy houses.

Dance from the Heart

We will begin practising for Dance from the Heart after the holidays.

Thank you for helping me with the twigs. Remember your cardboard pieces on Monday morning. A4 size is ideal but a little bigger or smaller won't hurt!

This Week In Year 4, we can't wait for Sports Day! It is coming up later today and we have sorted out our own teams. In D&T, we have started sewing and we have had lots of fun doing it. Yesterday, we practiced our violin and learnt how to use the bow very faintly but we stil learned a lot. We also had a recap on the strings of the violin and learnt that they are GDAE. We have also learnt lots about kenning poems and how they are written. We are also learning about Haiku poems and how they are written (It goes like this 5-7-5 syllables). In Science, we are learning about precipitation (Rain) and clouds. We did an experiment with water shaving foam and food colouring and something exiting happened!

We're back from a brilliant countryside walk to Walmer Bridge park. The challenge was successfully completed - we didn't walk along any roads.

This Week In Year 4, we have had Test Week! We are also having a new whiteboard fitted. It is exiting and we can't wait for it to be fully fitted! In English, we have been learning Haiku poems and their styles (3 lines and 5-7-5 syllables in them). We have made our own Haiku poems and also made one as a group they are Awesome! We have also been learning the chunking method and the bustop method it was really Challenging and Hard but we got it in the end and all had fun. In Test Week we had some really tricky questions but solved them quite easily. In the Math we encountered some crazy and challenging questions but once we got the hang of it, we wized through the questions and we had a great time! We can't wait for the rest of the week and we bet it will be fun! Some people have learnt their tables! Well done on getting your silver stars!

Taxes!, by Mr Coxhead

This morning, Year 6 enjoyed a visit from Mr Bates (father of Matthew in Y2) who delivered a session all about taxes! It was an excellent session. Year 6 explored different forms of taxation in the UK and learnt about how the government uses taxes to fund the provision of public services.

The video below was watched by Year 6 as part of the presentation - well worth a look!

This morning we enjoyed a fabulous assembly from the music service.  We learnt all about some of the different brass instruments.  We listened to a range of music and had to guess the film or TV theme tune.

We welcome back Miss Stocker this week to help us with our learning.  She will be in school this week and next.

English / Geography / Computing - we will be continuing our research on the Lake District and creating our Powerpoints. 

Maths - we are learning about money.  Adding up price lists and finding change, writing amounts in £ and in p. 

P.E. - Games.

R.E.  - The Guru Granith Sahib.

Sports Day - fingers crossed for good weather. 

This week is also check- up week so will will be completing a variety of assessment activities throughout the week.

In English this week the Bongos will become poets. We will be looking at the humourous poem Aliens Stole My Unerpants and The Michael Rosen Rap. Spelling this week will be looking at the possessive apostrophe, words ending in al, el and le.

Maths this week will be looking at reading temperature, capacity, weight, money and time.

In RE we will be learning about Guru Nanak.

The Bongos will complete their Henri Rousseau themed masterpieces in art  ( if sports day is postponed) and use percussion instruments in music.

We will be outside for PE doing some athletics

Hello All,

I hope that you have enjoyed the weekend!

This is what the Penguins will be doing this week. This week is called our check-up week so we will be doing assessments throughout the week.

English

We will do two reading comprehension papers and a big write.

Maths 

We will do two maths papers - a reasoning paper and an arithmetic paper.

Reading

We will do individual reading colour book band assements as appropriate.

GPS

We will do one combined grammar, punctuation and spelling assessment.

Phonics

We will not do a formal phonics assessment as our phonics screening check is only one month away.

Class Assembly

We hope you can make it to our class assembly - Percy's Bumpy Ride - at 9am on Thursday 18th May.

Sports Day 

It's our first attempt of Sports Day on Friday afternoon - fingers crossed for sunshine!

Wednesday 17th May is the receptions enterprise day. We will be selling lollies...iced lollies, fruit lollies, yoghurt lollies, chocolate lollies all at 50p. We will sell them after school for 50p under the quad. We have been busy making posters to tell our friends.

This week we went to Cuerden valley park. It was for our knowledge of rivers and Geography and we definitely had fun! The river that we went to was the River Lostock. We had a tour of the river and went fishing with nets. We measured the river's speed and its height. James got drenched but he still had fun! Also we did a little mini beast hunt,what we had to do was grab a net and stand behind it and move your feet for 30 seconds. 

We also scooped up pebbles And quartz,marble and amber.

Today we had woodland Wednesday even though it was Thursday! Princess  Fairybelle arrived and we thought about our woodland rules. We played a game of 123 were are we, and then we made a woodland friend.

This morning we started to think about our unit of work on the Lake District. We found it on a map and watched a video of the hills and lakes from the sky. It was breathtaking. 

We thought of lots of questions we could try and answer through research and grouped them into different topics. 

Tomorrow we are going to look at leaflets of places to visit in the Lake District in order to gather ideas and inspiration for our own information leaflet.

This week we are measuring in different ways. Weighing, filling and emptying containers, seeing how long or short objects are......today we measured objects in the classroom using unifix cubes.

Another exciting week for the Giraffes.

English - For the next 2 weeks we will be focusing on Non fiction texts and linking it all together with our Geography unit of the Lake District and our Computing work, making a PowerPoint.  We will generate a list of key questions to research and begin to find the answers.

Grammar - we will be focusing on using conjunctions. Co-ordinating conjunctions (FANBOYS -for, and, nor, but, or, yet, so) and subordinating conjunctions (while, if, when, since, before, until, although)

Maths - this week we will be covering all 4 number operations (addition, subtraction, multiplication and division) and using what we know to solve problems. 

P.E. - We will continue to developing our throwing and catching skiills and begin to understand and practise the skill of marking an opponent. 

R.E. - Sikhism, exploring the Gurus. 

 

Class Assembly, by Mrs Catterall

I was a super proud teacher last week as the giraffes put on their class assembly for their parents.  The children worked amazingly well to research their given area, write a script and make some of the props they were going to need.  They spoke clearly and were very informative.  Well Done Giraffes.

Sorry if we didn't get to inform you on Friday, we couldn't get on the IPad we tried all the other options but it didn't work we are happy to inform you now! In year 4,we did a German recap on days of the week and Monday is Montag etc.We practiced our violin and it was definitely fun! We had to get our violins out and stood up and played to the rhythm it was cool! In English, we wrote poems and they were fun and cool! We listened to Michael Rosens Introduction Song and laughed out loud! In Science,  we learned about solids ,liquids and gases.

 

We have had fun and can't wait for the further week!😀🐯

 

The Week Ahead, by Mrs Fletcher

The Bongos have got a busy week ahead of them. We are going to start our check up week on Monday and aim to have all of the assessments done by Friday. However we will monitor how things are going and if needs be we will complete the check ups next week.

In between our check up activities we will be going over fractions, shape and measure in maths. We will be going over lots of areas of grammar in our special grammar books. In spelling we will be looking at words with or after w. Writing this week will see the children writing explanations of the seasons and weather in Britain and an animal themed story.

We will continue to learn about Sikhism in RE and to work on our Henri Rousseau inspired collages.

Hope everybody enjoyed the glorious weather today let's hope it stays for Thursday!

This Week In:

English - Miss Priestley will be inspiring the children with poetry, learning about some different styles of poems

Maths - our learning will involve finding fractions of amounts and formal written ways to divide, yeah chunking!

Science - the children to work with Miss Priestley continuing to investigate solids, liquids and gases

Geography - we will be learning about the water cycle and of course our trip on Thursday to observe the river Lostock firsthand. Please  make sure the children are appropriately dresses for the weather

DT - we will be practising our sewing skills and making patterns for our wallets and purses

We will of course keep our 15 minutes of movement going every day

Another busy but fun week planned!
