Here is an overview of what the Penguins will be doing this week.
Maths |
We will finish learning about fractions and begin learning about time (o'clock and half past). |
English |
We will read The New Royal Baby - a story about how Prince George feels when his new baby sister upstages him. |
Phonics |
Miss Adamson's group learning about multisyllabic and compound words. Mrs Gray's group are practising consonant blends. |
Handwriting |
This week we are practising writing numbers accurately. |
Art |
We are preparing a little something for Mother's Day. |
PE |
We are still dancing! |
RE |
We are doing our final lesson about Buddhism. We will be learning about how to be a good friend. |
Assembly |
This week we will be watching the Year 4 Production on Tuesday afternoon. |
Music |
We are practising our special song for the Easter assembly in church. |

In RE we learned about the story of Buddha and the Injured Swan. Buddhists try to treat animals with compassion as equals. We made origami swans and retold the story.

This Week In Year 4 has been a busy one! In maths we have been estimating where numbers go on a number line. In English, we have been using talk for writing to produce amazing paragraphs for Mrs. Pratten to read! Today, we have Been researching what physical and human features we have in our German football teams.

This afternoon the Bongos are looking at art work from Kenya. They are experimenting with line and shape whilst Kenyan music is playing in the background. A few Bongos are making use of our snuggly blankets and working on the floor.
The Bongo classroom is a lovely, peaceful place this afternoon π

This morning the Bongos are busy telling the time in 5 minute intervals. Today we have found that telling times past is easy but times to can be tricky. We have also found a way to help us be more confident telling the time to the hour. See the photo

We have been choreographing our own dances to The Three Little Pigs. This afternoon we role played the story.
Iron Man - DT, by Mrs Catterall

Many of our Iron Men have been completed. The children have worked extremely hard to design and create these with very little input from myself. They have had to try things out, overcome difficulties through problem solving and there has been lots of collaborative working through supporting each other. They have developed a variety of skills through this unit of work. I am very proud of their final moving models as I'm sure you will be.
Swimming - Water Safety, by Mrs Catterall

Over the past few weeks we have been learning a variety of life saving skills during our swimming lessons. We have swum several lengths of the pool wearing our shorts and T. shirts, practised a reaching rescue and learnt the help position. The Sharks had their assessment today and the fishes will have theirs next week. All children will still require their clothes next week please.

Vitruvian man , by Miss Leigh

With our topic being inventions and inventors we have started looking at famous inventors. In Science, we have looked at the work of Leonardo da Vinci, and have explored his work on the vitruvian man. We measured our height and then tested his ideas against ourselves. Most of the time we found he was correct, however, occasionally they didn't work. We discussed why this might be and think it is because we are still growing and not an adult yet.

This morning we have been exploring the properties of 3D shapes. Some of the questions required us to think aoutside the box, but we managed it!

The Bongos have had fun doing table music. They have used different parts of their hands on the table tops to create percussion based music. They have been thinking about dynamics and rhythm.

On Friday we enjoyed a morning of scooter safety. The children learnt about the different parts of their scooter to check as well as how to stay safe while riding their scooter out and about. The children have brought home their booklets to share with you.

DT - Linkages and Levers, by Mrs Catterall

The children have been working extremely hard this half term following a series of instructions to create 4 different moving mechanisms. Each mechanism uses levers and linkages in different formations to create a particular output. We have displayed these on a design board. The children are now using this knowledge to design and create a moving Iron Man. Work is in progress and we hope to have some completed moving iron men to show you next week.

Fossil Printing.
As part of our unit on rocks and fossils we developed our drawing and observation skills within art. The children then explored using safeptrint and card and string to create 2 different printing effects.

Today we read the story of the gingerbread man and talked about keeping safe after Mr Pearsons assembly on Thursday about stranger danger. We once again loved being outside the water area is a real hit with everyone in the Meerkats.

The weather has been fab this week and so down in reception the Meerkats have been exploring outdoors. They really enjoy the water area so we are trying to make it even more fun. The mosaic bench is coming along, it's very time consuming but it will be worth it. Also we've been whittling more wood for our messy maths area to make simple 2d shapes....
