It has been an amazing week for our class. The highlight of the week was our outstanding performance of Cinderella The Musical. Our audiences loved it!
We have had 3 class compliments this week so are beginning to fill our new chart.
This morning all of our English work was based on the song This is Me from The Greatest Showman. We have even written our own versions which we will video and share next week.
This afternoon we have been learning about different ways in which artists draw and paint water.

Today the Penguins enjoyed a cricket session, learning to hit the wickets, hit the ball as well as practising our throwing and catching skillls. They all enjoyed the session and should have bought home details of how they can join New Longton cricket club and take part in some coaching sessions. There was lots of good skill on show - well done Penguins!

We have had loads of fun doing PE outside. We had a go at the obstacle race ready for sports day. Next we had a go at the running race and we ran all the way around the field. Finally we finished with parachute games. We made a mushroom and played popcorn.

Good morning
The sun is shining, fingers crosssed it stays this week.
Another great week in school is planned. On Thursday we will be going in our trip to BAE, we are leaving at 9am so please make sure you are all here on time.
On Tuesday afternoon we get to watch the year 4 production, I'm sure it will be fabulous.
In English this week we will be writing and practising our class assembly in preparation for next week. Although I have a rough plan the children will be creating this themselves. Writing their parts and organising there props etc.
In Maths we are focusing on arithmetic on Monday and then the focus will be money. They will be creating a shop and buying and selling their products with play money as well as developing their addition and subtraction of decimal numbers.
P.E. - developing our tennis skills.
Jigsaw - Relationship unit.
Music - Mrs Bolton
Science - planting seeds and looking at plant variety. How many types of plant do we have in our school grounds?

We are learning traditional rhymes, looking for rhyming words, sharing our preferences and writing our own version of a traditional rhyme. |

Maths |
We are continuing our learning about number and place value. Specifically, we are comparing groups of objects and numbers and ordering groups of objects and numbers. |

Phonics |
Mrs Thomson's group are learning about silent letters and Mrs Coxhead's group are learning unusual graphemes for vowel sounds. |

PE |
On Thursday morning the Cricket Roadshow is coming to Year One so we will learn about and try a little cricket. We are also practising some of our ball skills. |

Jigsaw |
We are continuing our topic about relationships by learning about people who help us. |

Computing |
We are using ICT to design castle pictures. |

Reading |
Books are changed on Friday this week. |

This afternoon we all had great fun looking at our learning journals so far. We had fun remembering all the fun we have had so far in reception. We could not believe how far we have come since September.

Earthlings! Today we applied for jobs in the morning and had to use our skills collaboratively to create a display fact file about Planet Earth. We had creators making a (fairly) accurate Earth globe, who worked closely with the Geographers to ensure accuracy and to come up with facts for over 100 countries around the globe. We had artists and researchers working closely to sketch 3D foods from around the world, which were paired with facts and food air miles. We’ve had a great day!

As part of our work based around the story of The Mousehole Cat we were interview in role as some of the characters from the story. Some of us were villagers , some were Mowzer the cat and another group were Old Tom . Our interviews were videoed.

Friendship was the theme in today's assembly. When we walked into the hall there was a question, that question was what does being a good friend mean to you ? We had a challenge where we had to finish a sentence with a different thing about our friends. One of the sentence starters was my friend is different to me because... we came up with because we are all unique! We then had some time to think about the qualities of our best friend. Good friends listen, so we looked at, the rules of listening. The rules of listening are: be still, look at the speaker, nod and look interested and ask questions that relate on what the speaker is saying. We were talking about how a good friend says nice things to us and how it makes us feel happy. We said that you can give your friends a positive stroke. We don't physically stroke them, but we give them a compliment or say well done. This makes the person you said it to feel happy, just like when you stroke a cat, it feels good and makes them happy and purr.

Congratulations Giraffes on your very successful enterprise. Your pitta pockets, homemade coleslaw and rainbow fruit kebabs were really popular. You did an amazing job , working as a team to chop, fill and create your food and then went on to impress everyone with your outstanding customer service.
Your pricing was spot on . £82 was taken in sales, the cost of the ingredients was £40 giving you a profit of £42. This is a 105% profit making the Year 4 enterpise a real success.

We had a delivery by post today. A box arrived with 5 tiny caterpillars in. We have been learning about lifecycles of a tadpole a bean and now a butterfly. We haven't yet talked about the lifecycle of a butterfly but we have put the caterpillars in a safe place and letting them settle into class and grow! We will talk about the lifecycle of a butterfly next week.

The Penguins enjoyed a busy day today, preparing healthy snacks as part of our Jigsaw work (and teatsing them of course!) and a visit from the fire service.
This morning we were busy chopping, scooping and preparing our healthy snacks, popcorn raisins, veggie dip, avocado dip, fruity scones and fruit kebabs. The best bit was tasting them this afternoon and voting for our favourite, it was...fruit kebabs ,closely followed by popcorn raisins.
This afternoon we had a visit from the fire service talking to the children about fire safety. Homework check up, does your child know their address and have you checked your smoke alarm recently? It would be useful to discuss a fire plan with the children , just in case.

THIS WEEK HAS BEEN TREMENDOUS! ESPECIALY TODAY BECAUSE WE HAD DIFFERENT SECTIONS THAT WE COULD CHOOSE FROM. THE SECTIONS WERE : MATHS, D.T, READING AND G.P.S . EACH SECTION WAS 1 HOUR APART FROM READING AND G.P.S WHICH WERE 30 MINUTES EACH . LUKES FAVOURITE THING WAS READING BECAUSE HE GOT TO VIDEO A MAGAZINE REVIEW . MY FAVOURITE THING WAS D.T BECAUSE WE GOT TO MAKE THINGS THAT MOVE . I HOPE TO DO THIS AGAIN .
