World Book Day 2019, by Mrs Fletcher

Date: 8th Mar 2019 @ 10:35am

The Bongos all look amazing in their costumes. This morning they have shared the opening pages of Alice Dent and The Incredible Germs by Gwen Lowe. They have looked at cartoon illustrations of germs and learnt how to draw cartoons in the style of the author/illustrator Calvin Innes and are now creating their own germ cartoon characters.

We have been to the library for a story session with Tom. The first story was called Morris the mankiest monster and when the children heard something disgusting they had to shout urrgh . There were lots of things in this book that were truly disgusting however we all enjoyed hearing the story.

I Say Ooh You Say Aah was the next story which we had to listen to carefully as it was full of instructions to follow. The children got to shout aah, shout underpants and pat their heads. It really was great fun.

Next we played a story telling game. Everyone had to stand up in a circle. , Tom started the game with a word and we all had to say a word. It was more great fun .

This afternoon the children have been busy creating bookmarks to use when they are reading for pleasure .

Maths, by Mrs McLennan

Date: 1st Mar 2019 @ 5:27pm

Continuing with the theme of Jim and the beanstalk, today we used our maths skills to make a giant footprint. Firstly we drew round our foot then measured the length and width. We doubled these numbers using our addition skills to make a footprint twice as big as our own. We couldn’t believe how much bigger it looked. For some of us we doubled this again so that our new footprint really was gigantic in size.

We have been developing our understanding of conjunctions this week, thinking about the differences between co-ordinating and subordinating conjunctions and which to use in a sentence.  Ask them what FANBOYS stand for?

In English we have read the story the 'Escape from Pompeii' and written descriptive paragraphs of the city before the eruption. Tomorrow we are going to focus the the eruption itself.

Musical mayhem, by Mrs McLennan

Date: 15th Feb 2019 @ 3:33pm

What a week! We have made our instruments and are really pleased with them. We thought about what materials we would use, how we would join each part and how we would decorate it so it didn’t look like a cardboard box! I wonder if this has made us want to be a designer or a musician.
