We are all very excited 🙂, by Mrs Catterall

Date: 11th Jan 2019 @ 9:37pm

We have begun to get ready for our Stone Age to Iron Age themed week next week. I've spent a few hours after school setting things up in our classroom and have my shopping list ready - marshmallows are on the list!!

Remember you can come in your own outdoor clothes next week, I'm sure we will get mucky.  Plenty of warm clothes and inside shoes needed as well.

I'm so excited already. See you Monday.

Letter writing , by Mrs McLennan

Date: 10th Jan 2019 @ 3:55pm

Today we have written letters to the author Hilary Robinson telling her how much her books on World War One inspired us. I wonder if we will receive a reply. We have become expert map readers and map makers of the local area. We have also had a great dance lesson where we thought about shells and the shape they make.

Happy NewYear, by Mrs Fletcher

Date: 9th Jan 2019 @ 7:44pm

Happy New everyone. Thank you very much for all of the very lovely and very thoughtful gifts I received for Christmas.

I have uploaded this terms curriculum overview and it is on display on the window board.

Projects are due in on Monday 28th January, the week of the next round of parents evenings. The project can be based around anything the children have enjoyed learning about so far this year, anything on this terms curriculum overview or anything that interests them outside of school- a hobby, a skill, a favourite book.

Home work will be coming home tomorrow for ALL children. It should be completed and returned to school no later than next Tuesday. Any homework that is regularly not done will have to be done at lunchtime  on Wednsday. Please can I also ask that children read at home, Mrs Doherty has reported that there are an increasing number of children not reading and who are not returning their reading books and blue reading records on Mondays.

There have been a few minor changes to the timetable this term, Miss Connell will continue to teach PE and Jigsaw on Monday mornings. She will also be in class on Tuesday afternoons teaching PE and RE and on Wednesday mornings following music teaching reading comprehension, spelling and data and statistics.

Shadows, by Mrs Catterall

Date: 9th Jan 2019 @ 7:06am

We took advantage of the cold yet sunny weather to explore our shadows. We worked in pairs to draw around our shadows.  We noticed that they were longer than we really were.  I wonder why this is? Is my shadow going to look the same tomorrow? Does it look different at different times of the day.  If I draw around my shadow at 2pm in July will it look the same?  As the rest of the school year goes along we will continue to think about and explore these questions.

Spelling, by Mrs Catterall

Date: 9th Jan 2019 @ 7:00am

We have been learning about the suffixes -ness and -ful this week.  We went on a hunt around the room to find out which root words we could add each suffix to in order to make a new word.

We have also seen how the spelling practice program 'Primary Spelling Online' works.  Children have been told how they can login at home.  They will be able to practice in school as well and will complete the assessment task this week to get them started.  When they login you will be able to see the words they have spelt correctly and those they have got wrong.

Keep practising.

Happy new year, by Mrs McLennan

Date: 7th Jan 2019 @ 4:52pm

Welcome back and a very happy new year. Today we have reflected on our achievements from last year and thought about what we’d like to learn and find out about this year. I wonder if you have a resolution.

paige + jolie`s blog, by Miss Reynolds

Date: 7th Jan 2019 @ 3:14pm

Today we have been investigating Miss Reynolds` wonder which is about how many people can fit inside our ball-cage,which is in our massive playground. We worked in threes to measure how wide the ball-cage is and how high it is. To do this we went outside with measuring sticks to find the length. When we came in from lunch we started to learn about Shang Dynasty, which is in China. Our teacher read us a story about Wan-Nian's calendar. Did you know that Miss Reynolds can speak a little bit of chinese herself. Together the class created a Shang Dynasty wonder sheet ...

Maths investigation today, by Miss Reynolds

Date: 7th Jan 2019 @ 2:59pm

Our maths investigation was very interesting! We were trying to figure out how many people we could fit inside the ball cage, but the ball cage was locked! We realised that we didn’t need to get inside, if we knew how many rows of people we could fit in, we could figure it out. However, then someone pointed out that there was in fact loaaaaads of room higher up if we could stack people. So then we learnt about volume and how we could figure out the best way to stack people so they’d fit! It caused lots of arguments about best strategies, including jenga stacks, piggy backs and cinnamon roll towers! We realised that there were issues with our assumptions because some groups had smaller members, and other had much taller ones... this led us to refine our statement: how many Juliettes can you fit in compared to how many Eddies? We still can’t decide on the best way to stack them though!
