Day 2, by Miss Reynolds

Date: 15th Mar 2018 @ 11:33am

We're currently on beacon fell... it is a bit drizzly but we are still buzzing to be splashing around in the mud whilst orienteering. Turns out Laila is quite the map reader and Eryn falls down the hill with the most style. I've tried to upload pictures again but it's not having it... there are some fantastic ones though!

Day 1 - Hothersall , by Miss Reynolds

Date: 14th Mar 2018 @ 5:04pm

I've tried roughly 20 times to update the blog... come on try number 21! We had a really excellent first day with survival skills, orienteering and zip wiring! Our first night went (surprisingly) smoothly - everyone was tucked up getting to sleep by 10 and people are just getting up now. We're going to play some early morning footy!

Hopefully update you again soon with some pictures!

Hothersall Tomorrow!, by Miss Reynolds

Date: 13th Mar 2018 @ 4:19pm

Tomorrow is finally the day!

Please check the kit list to make sure that you have everything that you might need and can I remind children to come in activity gear tomorrow at normal school time. The buses aren't likely to be here until 9.50ish, so if you could just drop off your children with their bags in the hall and we will sort it out when the buses arrive.

Please can I also remind you to bring: a) a packed lunch for tomorrow and b) any medication/inhalers/calpol etc in a bag with your child's name and instructions for use. If your child has migraines/headaches/general aches & pains that you would usually just administer Calpol for, please send this with your child too so we can give it if needed.

I think that is everything! The children know their activity groups and have been asked to pair themselves up for sleeping arrangements - this may change if there are too many issues, but it seemed that most parents/children had a clear idea of who would work best for them, as I know staying away from home for 2 nights is going to be a challenge for some in itself.

I will try to update the blog with photos of the days as we go on, but can't promise anything as wifi apparently is notoriously patchy - if not, all photos will be up on the blog when we get back.

Hope you're all as excited as me!

Se you tomorrow!

Growing success!, by Mrs Pratten

Date: 9th Mar 2018 @ 4:53pm

We were very excited today to discover that our seeds have started to germinate and grow roots. 😊

We have also set up an experiment to find out about what will happen to a plant if it doesn't have water, light or warmth.

We have put cress in different places around the classroom and outside. One has been well watered and one not, we have made predictions about what we think will happen.

Finley put his in the light in the classroom, Victoria put hers in the dark cupboard. Next Riley put his in the quad area by Year 1 outside and Poppy placed hers on the heater. We can' wait to see and find out what happen!

Happy Mothers Day to all the lovely ladies of Longton.

year 5 blog by Lennon and Max!, by Miss Reynolds

Date: 7th Mar 2018 @ 3:08pm

Today,we had a fun packed action day because we made arts and crafts also we made foam paper aeroplanes and we even finished are Eddie the eagle cards from World book day.In the afternoon we decorated our  foam planes, however not all of them went to plan because some of them were too light and others were too heavy. So then Miss Reynolds told us that we could have a go at flying them for the first time(in the ball-cage). Then we went back into class and Miss Reynolds  gave us each a maltesers to help with our planes, and what do you know it helped alot of us in class because it balanced the weight of the planes and also people on there first go  got -4 and then got 8 and a half  meters so it helped them alot.So what will happen next with the foam paper aeroplanes...laughyesdevil

Creating planes! , by Miss Reynolds

Date: 7th Mar 2018 @ 2:54pm

Today we have been making our own planes... we've had a few cut fingers and had to tweak our designs, but finally got them flying in the end!

Back to normal, by Mrs Pratten

Date: 6th Mar 2018 @ 8:28pm

I had a lovely welcome back from the Penguins and it's good to be back and feeling a lot better.

Today we started to think about the setting and characters for our farm stories, tomorrow we will be talking about possible problems that might happen and they could be solved. Then on to planning and writing what I know will be some super stories.

In Maths we will be continuing with division and sharing.

In science today we talked about how plants grow and where the seeds might come from.  We started to make some grass heads and plant some beans, peas and sunflowers. We need to make sure we look after them and are looking forward to seeing what will happen as they grow.

We also looked at some seeds in fruits and vegetables  and discussed where the seeds can be found, then drew some excellent pictures by looking really carefully.

Jigsaw work this week is about being motivated and also how important it is to relax.

Hope all the visitors to school today enjoyed  being " ladies who lunch" , the children were certainly very excited 😊More tomorrow!

World Book Day - winter Olympic themed, by Mrs Catterall

Date: 3rd Mar 2018 @ 4:32pm

We had some great costumes in the Bongo tribe.  Well done everyone.  During the day we shared books with each other and members of our families.  We read the story of Snowman Paul and the Winter Olympics.  We developed our co-ordinate understanding through creation of figures in Winter Olympic sporting poses.

In the afternoon we had to imagine Longton Primary School were taking part in the Bobsleigh event.  We designed a Longton Primary School Bobsleigh as well as the outfit the competeters would wear.  In groups we wrote about the preparations for the race, how it felt to be stood at the top waiting to take part as well as, once the race was over, waiting for the results.
