Shape Poetry, by Mrs Catterall

Date: 6th Dec 2017 @ 10:07pm

We braved the cold and took our learning outside the other morning to gather inspiration for our shape poetry.  We focused on our senses and detail in what we could see to create lists of powerful vocabulary before returning to the class to create a Poem.

Time, by Mrs Catterall

Date: 6th Dec 2017 @ 10:03pm

This week we have been learning more about time.  We have used a website game www.teachingtime.co.uk, this is fantastic for matching analogue and digital times.  I have asked the children to start with the year 1 game and once they can complete in less than 30 seconds to move on to the next one and so on.

Please support your child with reading the time at home, talking about start and finish times of TV programmes, how long will it be on for? We are leaving at  ?  The time is now ?  How long before we go? etc.

SCIENCE-COLE & LEON , by Miss Reynolds

Date: 6th Dec 2017 @ 2:32pm

Today in science we had to separate: rice, rocks, glitter, metal paperclips and salt-water solution. They had all been mixed together in one plastic container and we had to find a way to separate them. Our group used a magnet to get the paperclips out because they where the only metal thing in there and they would atract to the magnet. To get the glitter out we had to filter it, which was quite hard.To get the rice out we had to use a net to sieve it out.To get the rocks out we used a spoon. To get the salt out of the water we used a tealight  to heat up the solution and evaporate the water which left us with the salt.We also made a time lapse of it and put it on the blog so you can see what happend;we realy enjoyed it.winkwinkwink

We just want to say a big thank you to everyone that bought a cookie or hot chocolate from us on Friday - we had lots of fun making everything, but apparently 80 biscuits wasn't nearly enough! The whole school wanted our delicious treats... Sorry if you missed out! We managed to make a profit of around £50! Thank you very much to Mrs Baller and Mrs Ashcroft for lending a hand too!

Date: 26th Nov 2017 @ 3:33pm

Don't forget that we are taking an Athletics team to Priory on Tuesday - if you haven't already returned your permission slip, please bring that in Monday! If there are any parents that would be available to take some children to and from Priory, that would be very much appreciated. We are leaving at 9am and returning around midday.

Also, I forgot to put a blog post up about homework, but just so you know, English - Lets keep working on those spellings with Spellodrome! If you don't have access to a computer, then you can do it at school.  You need to write 5 sentences with any 5 words from Spellodrome. We'll be having a test on the stage 3 list Wednesday next week. Maths is the grid method multiplication sheet that we wrote as a class - you must do a minimum of any 4 of those questions, but I am expecting most of you to be able to do most of them!

This week will look like this:

English: Reading comprehension skills

GPS: Inventing words & word class

Maths: Consolidation week - a week of reviewing and deepening our understanding in various areas of Maths, particularly reasoning skills. Found this fun little website for improving all areas of Maths. You just need to provide an email address so it can keep track of your prgoress for you, but it's absolutely free. It also has a Reading section, but I haven't had chance to explore that yet - give it a go and tell me what you think!

Science: Irreversible changes

D.T: Evaluating our Enterprise biscuits

Continents, Celebration Assembly and Words, by Miss Adamson

Date: 24th Nov 2017 @ 4:45pm

Hello :)

I hope you've had a lovely week!

We had a watch of a quick video about the names of the seven continents this afternoon.

Also, we coloured baubles to go on the Christmas tree at Booths - keep an eye out for them.

A handful of children have a few words to learn for celebration assembly on Monday afternoon. I hope it's not too onerous! Some children were a little dissapointed that they didn't have any words. However, we will begin practising for our production with Reception soon and many more children will have speaking parts. We will try to ensure all children who want to speak will get an opportunity at some point throughout the year.

Most children have been bringing their words (piece of paper in poly pocket) to school for reading/spelling check on Friday morning. Please could these come to school in blue book bags on Fridays. Sorry that wasn't clear.

Last thing, if you have made a recycled Christmas tree decoration, please bring it in for Thursday 30th November - St Andrew's Day!

Have a lovely weekend!

Miss Adamson

Survival!, by Mrs Pratten

Date: 24th Nov 2017 @ 4:05pm

The Penguins were stranded on a desert island this afternoon and had to think what they would miss, what would make them happy and what they would absolutely need to survive. They had to write a note asking for things and ssend it out in the sea in a bottle and hope that someone would find it.

Yesterday we looked at road safety and discussed things we should do to keep safe around roads and crossing the road.

Hop you all have a lovely weekend 😀👍

A practical lesson on equivalent fractions.

Fraction fun, by Mrs Pratten

Date: 22nd Nov 2017 @ 7:13pm

We had fun this afternoon with fractions, we folded paper in different ways to show halves and quarters. Next we shared "sweets" between different numbers of children and used different grids, we even found a quarter of 48! Last but not least we had to choose whether we would rather eat half or a quarter of a chocolate bar and explain why. Then we could eat half but had to take half home. A big thank you to those parents and grandparents who were able to make it, a copy of notes and example questions will be coming home tomorrow in the homework bags.

We also had fun and did some really amazing thinking finding fractions of amounts on Tuesday. Our challenge was to find different ways of making half - we came up with some really clever ideas👍
